Redmi Note 17 Pro Max with 10,000 mAh: good news globally, but there’s a trade-off

The next generation of Xiaomi’s mid-range should take a generational leap, in a way similar to what happened in the transition between the Xiaomi 15 and 17. The future lineup is expected to be Redmi Note 17, and the included new features continue to surprise. In particular, the attention of leakers is focused on the unreleased Redmi Note 17 Pro Max, which would replace the current Pro+ model.

There are rumors of an exceptional Battery Phone, and now we know that globally it’s no joke either! It is revealed by the HyperOS source code, along with some details on the chipset and the camera system.

The device does not yet have a commercial name but has been identified with the code name chicago and the model code Q16U. The most important aspect concerns the battery: the new Redmi should be the brand’s first smartphone equipped with a silicon-carbon cell of as much as 10,000 mAh — following rivals such as Honor and Realme.

The HyperOS analysis supports this theory and seems to confirm support for fast charging at 100W. However we are talking about the Chinese model, but how will things change in Global markets? We know well the legislative limits that curb the use of extra-large batteries in Europe, and yet things could take a completely different turn.

The international device would, in fact, have a 9,210 mAh cell, still with 100W power. The Global variant does not reach the summit but it’s still an excellent result for the category.

The top of the Note series will move to MediaTek

The Xiaomi software code also reveals other details: among these, the chipset we might find on board the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max. The current Note 15 Pro+ mounts the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 both in China and globally; the future smartphone has been identified with the unreleased Dimensity 7500 by MediaTek (codename MT6881).

Camera updates

For the camera department, there is a dual-camera setup with a main Samsung HP5 sensor of 200 MP and an 8 MP OV08F10 ultra-wide, supported by a 32 MP Samsung selfie camera. Optical image stabilization is likely, already present on the aforementioned Note 15 Pro+.

Regarding the launch, the Chinese release is expected in summer — probably August. In the meantime, there are other novelties, such as a larger screen and even a cooling fan!
