The Chinese giant has announced in its homeland the new flagship series consisting of Huawei Pura 90, 90 Pro and 90 Pro Max, a trio of flagship devices that nod to the series’ typical aesthetics but manage to distinguish themselves with a range of colorways drawing heavily from the past DNA of the P-series. Here’s everything you need to know about specs, price and release on the Asian market, while awaiting details for a potential launch on our shores!
The new Pura series gets leaner than the previous generation, dropping the Pro+ version and introducing the Max model in place of the usual Ultra. We thus have the entry-level of the series, Huawei Pura 90, perfect as an introduction; then we move to Pura 90 Pro with features defined by Camera Phone, up to the peak represented by Pura 90 Pro Max.
The design partly echoes that of the previous Pura 80, but the devices manage to find their own identity thanks to new color options. We find the iconic triangular camera module with rounded corners while the new color-shifting hues clearly draw inspiration from those seen on the old P20 Pro and P30 Pro (real gems).
In addition to the look, there is also maximum attention to durability, with the usual IP68 and IP69 classifications. Regarding the display, the series offers OLED panels starting from a 6.6″ diagonal, with ultra-thin bezels, LTPO technology, advanced PWM Dimming and a tiny punch-hole for the selfie camera.
Huawei Pura 90 features a display of 6.6″ and the same goes for the larger brother Pura 90 Pro; the Pura 90 Pro Max is the giant of the family, with its 6.9″. The thinnest of the trio is the standard model, boasting a body only 7 mm thick (despite a sizeable battery).
The performance of the new Pura series relies on the Kirin 9030S chipset, developed by Huawei. As usual for now there are no technical details: the Chinese company has limited itself to confirming stellar improvements in AI performance as well as optimizations for the cameras (color, zoom sharpness, image stabilization capability).
The lineup is powered by large batteries but not oversized: the standard model starts with 6,500 mAh, while the higher-end siblings offer units of 6,000 mAh, all with silicon-carbon technology. For charging there is support for 100W wired charging, together with 80W wireless.
The software is HarmonyOS 6.1, Huawei’s latest operating system – recall, now completely detached from Android.
Being a Camera Phone, naturally the camera system aims for the stars. Huawei Pura 90 Pro is based on a triple-sensor setup: the main is a 50 MP solution with a 1/1.28″ sensor size and a variable aperture f/1.4/4.0, with optical stabilization and an RYYB filter; this is accompanied by a 12.5 MP ultra-wide and a 50 MP periscope telephoto with 4x optical zoom and 8x, aperture f/2.1 and OIS. Finally there is a multispectral Red Maple sensor, typical of Huawei, dedicated to color fidelity.
Huawei Pura 90 Pro Max steps up again by adding a main camera of 50 MP with LOFIC technology and a variable aperture. The strong point is the new 200 MP periscope telephoto lens with a 1/1.28″ size: this is a first for Huawei. As always all the sensors feature the RYYB filter, while Huawei’s imaging system remains XMAGE.
The smaller Pura 90 features a more basic setup with a 50 MP sensor (f/1.8), a 12.5 MP ultra-wide and a 50 MP telephoto with 3.7x optical zoom. In this case as well we find the multispectral unit. Selfies are handled by a 50 MP selfie camera.
The Pura 90 family was launched in China with prices starting at around 586€ at current exchange rates: at the moment it’s not known when Global debut will take place or which models will be available for international markets. Below you’ll find all configurations and their respective price.
