Apple updates AirTag 2: here’s the new sound to spot the ‘spy’ trackers

In January Apple launched its Second-generation AirTag, a novelty particularly awaited by enthusiasts. The design remains almost unchanged, while the internal changes allow overcoming the limits of the first chapter. In these hours the gadget has received the update to version 3.0.45, with the usual bug fixes and unspecified improvements. However, there is also room for a safeguard dedicated to the device’s anti-stalking functionality.

The changelog of the AirTag 2 update notes a small novelty: the sound for unwanted tracking has been modified to allow easier identification of an unknown AirTag around the user. Clearly this is a measure designed to improve the tracker’s anti-stalking functionality.

The Apple gadget has been greeted with enthusiasm: small, stylish and with long battery life, it is a valuable ally to hang near the keys, leave on the edge, or in the wallet (and not only). The flip side is that some might think of using it as a tracking tool towards others.

For this reason, if an unknown AirTag is near an iPhone or an Android phone, the device displays a warning. If time passes, the tracker begins to ring: this is a feature that cannot be disabled and is designed specifically to deter unwanted tracking. The new sound is louder and the device is easier to locate.

Returning to the update, your AirTag 2 doesn’t need a manual update: the upgrade to version 3.0.45 is automatic and happens as soon as the tracker is near the iPhone it is associated with. If you haven’t tried the new device yet, note that second-generation AirTag is discounted to 27€ on Amazon. And if you’re not a purist, the Xiaomi Tag (compatible with Dov’è) costs only 14.9€ from MediaWorld: an affordable yet equally stylish alternative!
