YouTube doesn’t want you to watch videos anymore — AI-generated summaries are replacing titles

Since August last year, Google has begun to deeply modify the user experience within its Discover feed, introducing AI-generated summaries in place of the original post titles.

This move has led to the creation of unified blocks of news drawn from various sources, although the automated approach has sometimes generated interpretation errors, proposing headlines that are either irrelevant or completely inaccurate.

Despite these initial criticisms, the California company appears determined to extend the use of this technology to other platforms within its ecosystem. Now, early experiments are directly involving

AI summaries on YouTube: user reports and new graphical interface

In recent hours, several subscribers have used Reddit to document the appearance of automatic summaries on the YouTube homepage.

Specifically, users known as madcuntKore and GrimmOConnor have shared images in which the traditional video titles are completely absent, replaced by brief textual synopses.

At the moment, the reports seem to concern exclusively the Android app.

From a graphical standpoint, the screen presents the usual thumbnails, followed however by expandable blocks containing the descriptions.

The impact appears quite unusual, as it forces people to manually interact with every single block of text, expanding it to understand the topic addressed in the multimedia content.

Currently, the reports seem to concern exclusively the Android app.

Graphically, the screen shows the usual thumbnails, followed by expandable frames containing the descriptions.

This is a clearly counterintuitive effect, considering that the logical direction for an entertainment platform of this kind should be to reduce waiting times, facilitating a quick and immediate choice by viewers.

As of now, there is no official confirmation from management about the intention to roll out this feature on a broad scale across all markets.

However, the definitive arrival of this change appears highly likely in the near future, especially considering that automatic textual summaries are already widely deployed and operational within video descriptions.

Regarding the anomalous and total disappearance of the original titles, the most plausible hypotheses suggest it could be a bug that emerged during testing.

Unfortunately for those experiencing the anomaly on their smartphones, the company has not released official communications nor has it provided updates to fix the error.
