Xiaomi will close March with a tech double feature: the debut of Watch S5 and the big comeback of laptops with Book Pro 14. The new wearable from Lei Jun’s company promises long battery life, a refreshed and elegant style, and many new features — while on the software side the proprietary HyperOS 3 UI cannot be missing.
The brand’s wearables lineup is about to receive an unprecedented addition, which perhaps could find space with us during the year. Xiaomi Watch S5 is the heir to the “S” line based on HyperOS and is on track to arrive in its homeland.
Note that Xiaomi Watch 5 debuted in China with HyperOS, while the international version is based on Google’s Wear OS. Still, there are Global watches with HyperOS, so it’s not out of the question that the new device could exit China’s borders.
Moving on to the novelties, Watch S5 has set aside the system with an interchangeable bezel in favor of an integrated bezel: it is no longer possible to physically detach the metallic crown and swap it with others of different colors and materials (as with Xiaomi Watch S4), but the device gains thickness and weight. Additionally, there is eSIM support, which is not present on the Western model.
The Watch S5 case is made of 316L stainless steel, while for the battery life, the Chinese company promises up to 21 days of use. The sensors have been updated for more precise health monitoring, and the control center has been redesigned to conveniently manage from the wrist both the car and smart home features.
The launch of Xiaomi Watch S5 is set for March in China; also coming is Xiaomi Book Pro 14, the brand’s first laptop after a hiatus of about three years.
