Vision GT debuts at MWC 2026: it’s Xiaomi’s first digital hypercar

The boundary between a technological giant and an automotive manufacturer is becoming increasingly thin, and Xiaomi has just marked a pivotal point in its evolution. On the occasion of MWC 2026 in Barcelona, the company unveiled Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo, a digital hypercar designed specifically for the renowned driving simulator Gran Turismo 7.

This is a historic milestone, as Lei Jun’s company becomes the first purely technological brand to join the Vision Gran Turismo project, joining an exclusive collection of concept cars created by the world’s most famous manufacturers.

The design of this car, led by Xiaomi EV Design Head Tianyuan Li, follows the philosophy of a wind-sculpted body. Aesthetically, the car features a teardrop shape when viewed from above, with the cockpit nestled in a body rich with ducts and air intakes that optimize aerodynamic flows.

The major challenge overcome by the technical team was solving the contradiction between the need for low drag for top speeds and the requirement for high aerodynamic downforce to tackle curves. Thanks to countless simulations, the hypercar achieved a drag coefficient of 0.29 and an aerodynamic downforce of -1.2, with an efficiency rating of 4.1, numbers that ensure absolute stability even at extreme speeds.

To support these performances, Xiaomi introduced innovative technologies such as the Active Wake Control System and the special Accretion Rims wheels, designed to manage the airflow around the wheels. Even the iconic rear light is not purely aesthetic, but serves as a large air outlet to improve cooling and vehicle stability.

Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of the Gran Turismo series, said he was deeply impressed by Xiaomi’s ability to balance these conflicting elements, calling the car a true benchmark for the modern electric era.

The interior of the Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo adopts the Sofa Racer concept: the cockpit is designed as a fluid shell where the dashboard, door panels and seats slide together in a single continuous loop, enveloping the driver in a space that feels more like a lounge than a cockpit.

Thanks to the Xiaomi Pulse feature, the car interacts with the driver through lights and sounds, sensing the driver’s emotional state and adapting the interior atmosphere to transform from a simple machine into an intuitive digital companion.

Although the Vision Gran Turismo launch is currently aimed at PlayStation consoles, the lessons learned in terms of intelligent software and extreme aerodynamics will have a direct impact on the brand’s future production of real cars.

Recall that MWC 2026 is also the stage for the company’s latest tangible novelties: Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra, the tablets Xiaomi Pad 8 and 8 Pro and many other novelties among wearables, audio and gadgets.
