It’s official: it’s time to say goodbye to the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold

The journey of the first smartphone from the South Korean company with a dual hinge has come to an end. After rumors circulating in recent hours, the definitive confirmation has arrived: the production and marketing of the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold have stopped here.

A spokesperson for the Seoul-based giant told Bloomberg that the device will no longer be restocked, starting from the domestic market of South Korea and then gradually extending the shutdown to other countries where it had been available.

This is an extremely rapid exit, considering that the device had its official debut only in December of last year.

Just three months of commercial life represent an unusually short window for a technology product of this tier, however the premises for such an epilogue were present since the early days of the launch.

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is already out of production

From its debut, the device has lived in an utterly atypical commercial situation. Availability in stores has never been constant or comparable to that of the brand’s other flagship lines.

The company released on select markets extremely limited batches, consisting of a few thousand units issued on a biweekly cadence.

Despite these stringent restrictions, public interest proved extraordinarily high and steady. Each stock shipment sold out in a matter of minutes, demonstrating strong curiosity and a good reception toward the two-fold format.

Unfortunately for enthusiasts, this dynamic will come to an end. Once the remaining stock currently in warehouses in the United States and other covered territories is exhausted, the smartphone will no longer be available for purchase. The last batch distributed in South Korea this week effectively marks the formal closure of the dedicated production lines.

An exercise in style with no heirs

Behind this decisively clear decision lies a precise corporate strategy. The company’s leadership recently clarified that, at the moment, there is no successor in development for this model.

The Galaxy Z TriFold was not designed to capture wide swaths of users or to generate large and steady sales volumes over time. On the contrary, its existence had a purely demonstrative purpose.

The leadership wanted to show the whole world, to consumers and especially to competitors, that they possessed the engineering know-how necessary to build a device technically so complex.

Having largely hit this milestone and having demonstrated its hardware capabilities, the company has deemed it pointless to keep a production line alive that, likely, would not guarantee adequate economic returns due to the very high development and production costs.

Whoever managed to secure one of these rare units now finds themselves holding a true collector’s item, a testament to a bold experiment that lasted the course of a single season.
