First update for the new Nothing Phone (4a) and (4a) Pro: what changes with the latest software version

Nothing Phone (4a)

The Live Update feature has been introduced with Android 16 and is available with various compatible apps. It is a class of notifications that allows real-time progress of an event to be shown directly from the lock screen or a pull-down shade, on the Always-On display or in the status bar, without having to open the app.

This is a useful feature for certain use cases such as transportation and deliveries, sports results, navigation with Maps, timers and recordings. With the new Nothing Phone (4a) update, the Live Updates are also visible on the Glyph Bar, the light bar located on the back of the phone.

The update — aimed at both phones — adds a hub dedicated to Relax, with widgets dedicated to breathing pauses. The new widgets offer three modes (Concentration, Relax, and Calm), each with its own haptic feedback system to guide breathing.

The Essential Apps drawer is enriched with the recommended apps and the ability to add them directly to the home screen. There’s also an addition to the Gallery app: the update introduces AI-based deletion within photos. The tool allows detecting and removing unwanted elements from shots, with the option to manually select the subjects to delete.
