Meta continues to invest decisively in the wearable devices sector, increasingly focusing on those who wear prescription glasses every day.
In the coming weeks, the company is expected to present two new models of Ray-Ban smart glasses Ray-Ban, designed specifically to accommodate prescription lenses.
Although previous versions already allowed the insertion of corrective lenses, these new devices are designed with this specific function in mind.
According to the latest information, the two models will have frames with rectangular and rounded styles. This is not a completely new generation of glasses, but a reworking designed for continuous comfort.
The exact differences compared with the past have not yet been officially announced, but the most credible hypotheses suggest targeted tweaks to the thickness of the frame, overall weight containment and battery life optimization, essential factors for those who need to keep glasses on their face at all times throughout the day.
The documents filed with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States have revealed the devices’ code names: Scriber and Blazer.
The Blazer model, in particular, will be available in both standard size and a larger variant. A notable detail revealed by the certifications concerns the serial numbers, identified as RW7001 and RW7002. This important numerical leap over the current RW4000 series suggests a significant hardware upgrade, which could include a newer processor.
Furthermore, the new Ray-Bans will support the Wi-Fi 6 UNII-4 band. This technology guarantees much faster, more reliable data transfers, a fundamental technical feature to support live video streaming and AI functionalities that require real-time image transmission.
The certifications also confirm the presence of the traditional mobile charging case, while there is no indication of internal displays, a technical spec not planned for this particular range.
The distribution strategy will mark an important step for the California-based company. These devices will be primarily sold through the normal prescription eyewear channels, bringing Meta’s technology and its partner EssilorLuxottica directly to specialized stores.
Mark Zuckerberg recently emphasized that billions of people worldwide wear glasses or contact lenses, saying that in a few years it will be hard to imagine daily life where most glasses are not equipped with artificial intelligence.
The numbers confirm this vision: the collaboration between the two companies led to the sale of over 7 million smart glasses in the last year, pushing executives to plan an increase in production capacity up to reach figures between 20 and 30 million units per year.
To support this transition, Meta has even reduced its investments in the virtual reality sector, reallocating resources toward these smart wearables. A crucial move to consolidate its edge, considering that other tech giants, like Apple, are preparing to release their own smart glasses next year.
