Recent rumors suggest that the upcoming models in the Huawei Pura 90 series, particularly the Pro variants, could incorporate a very significant update to the cameras.
According to information leaked by the well-known informant Smart Pikachu, two major Chinese mobile brands are currently testing an advanced technology for image sensors, and the numerous clues point precisely to the new Pura 90 lineup.
This move would confirm the company’s intention to maintain technological leadership in imaging, a tradition rooted in the era of the successful P series and that today continues under the Pura brand.
The novelty is named LOFIC, acronym for Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor. It is a particular structure designed for CMOS image sensors, intended to manage light far more effectively than conventional imaging modules.
The operation relies on the use of an external capacitor capable of storing the excess electrons, dramatically increasing the pixel’s capacitance without the need to physically enlarge the photodiode itself.
In bright lighting conditions, this mechanism prevents details from being lost or bright areas from appearing completely white due to the excessive intensity and light collision.
Conversely, in low-light environments, the sensor concentrates its activity directly on the photodiode, ignoring the large capacitor. This process allows translating even a minuscule amount of electrons into a meaningful voltage, drastically reducing noise and delivering night shots that are much sharper and free of unpleasant grain.
Applying LOFIC to telephoto lenses could bring substantial improvements to long-range photography. As early as last year, the company had introduced a dual-focus telephoto system capable of delivering excellent image quality at different distances.
The integration of the new capacitor would enable optimal shots even in the more complex lighting conditions, where current telephoto lenses generally show their limits.
Indeed, increasing dynamic range is crucial to maintaining high color fidelity and impeccable detail when using a strong zoom.
Following the brand’s usual commercial strategies, it is highly likely that these specifications will be reserved initially for the higher-end devices, such as the Pura 90 Pro.
In addition to the camera-related novelties, the rumors also outline some of the main technical specifications of the upcoming devices. The base model of the Pura 90 family should be equipped with a 6.58-inch display and powered by the Kirin 9020 processor.
Moving to the higher variants, larger flat displays are expected, with a diagonal of 6.87 inches. On the hardware side, the Pura 90 Pro is expected to rely on the chipset Kirin 9030, while the top-end Ultra would adopt the new Kirin 9030 Pro.
If the company decides to stick to its timeline, the official unveiling of this new flagship family should take place during the first half of the year, maintaining the established launch windows.
