Is your Pixel making strange noises too? You are not imagining it—it is a bug

Although smartphones developed by Google are generally appreciated for the software cleanliness and overall reliability, no technological device is completely immune to unforeseen defects.

In recent weeks, a growing number of users have begun reporting a particularly troublesome anomaly that is affecting several models in the Pixel line.

It is an unpleasant sound, similar to a crackling or a sudden and very loud “pop”, emanating from the phone speakers.

Testimonies, emerging mainly within dedicated discussions on Reddit, paint a coherent but frustrating picture for owners of Mountain View devices.

Everything seems to have started from a report by a user in possession of a Pixel 10, who described these noises as random but sometimes alarming due to the volume level reached.

Soon, other owners have confirmed the experience, showing that the phenomenon is not isolated to a single batch or faulty model.

The reports, in fact, involve the entire new range, including Pixel 10 Pro and 10 Pro XL, extending back to models from previous generations.

The experience is described almost as a temporary overload of the speaker, a brief event but enough to cause discomfort.

One user has noted how the situation can become embarrassing when the phone emits this loud noise in quiet or formal environments, catching anyone nearby off guard.

Possible causes and historical precedents

Analyzing the dynamics described by those who encountered the problem, a recurring pattern related to software usage emerges.

The audio defect tends to manifest more frequently when the device is already handling a a background audio stream, such as playing an audiobook or listening to music, and at the same time another application is launched.

Opening or closing apps, especially games, seems to be one of the triggering factors, as well as receiving notifications during multimedia playback.

However, this is not a bolt from the blue in Google’s hardware history. Forums like XDA and discussions on the official support community show traces of similar problems. Already from the end of last year and through 2024, reports had emerged regarding sporadic audio crackles on older models.

A particularly concerning detail, highlighted in some of these older reports, is that the noise could occur even with the device’s volume completely down, suggesting a low-level hardware audio management issue rather than a simple app glitch.

Awaiting official intervention

As of now, the situation leaves users without a definitive solution or an effective preventive method. There is no clear procedure to eliminate the problem, except the decidedly impractical one of avoiding the specific applications that seem to trigger the error more often.

The apparently random nature of the bug makes it difficult to reproduce on command, complicating DIY diagnosis.

While frustration grows on forums, an official response from the company is still awaited. Google has not issued public statements regarding this wave of reports.

It is highly likely that the final resolution will have to come through a future firmware update or a monthly security patch.

Until then, Pixel owners will have to live with the risk that their smartphone suddenly decides to make itself heard, hoping that the next “pop” does not arrive at the least opportune moment.
