After years of waiting and countless rumors, the first foldable smartphone from Apple seems finally ready for its official debut, scheduled for this fall in conjunction with the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Until now, the press and enthusiasts have referred to this unreleased device using the name iPhone Fold, a practical term to describe its nature but never confirmed.
However, recent information from China suggests that the California-based company has very different plans for the christening of its new flagship product.
The chosen name could in fact drop the direct reference to the closing mechanism, instead aiming at a designation that highlights its market exclusivity: iPhone Ultra.
The adoption of the “Ultra” label would not be a choice limited to the smartphone sector alone. Rumors indicate Apple’s intention to inaugurate a true line of products of the very highest tier, united by the same suffix and with extraordinary specifications.
In addition to the anticipated foldable smartphone, autumn could bring the announcement of a pair of new earbuds, the AirPods Ultra. These would correspond to the advanced model discussed recently, characterized by the integration of tiny cameras.
Completing the high-end trio would be the MacBook Ultra, a laptop that would mark a significant debut for the company, introducing for the first time a touchscreen with OLED technology.
Each of these devices would sit at the top of its category, representing the most expensive and advanced option offered by the brand.
In addition to the names and technical specifications, Asian sources have provided interesting details regarding the possible cost of this new ecosystem.
The starting price of the iPhone Ultra is expected to hover around 10,000 yuan, equivalent to about 1,250 euros at the current exchange rate. It would be a surprisingly modest entry figure for a newly conceived Apple device.
However, what raises more curiosity is the dizzying gap anticipated versus the more equipped version of the same phone, whose cost should exceed 20,000 yuan, nearing 2,500 euros.
The reasons behind such a marked price difference between the base model and the flagship remain, for now, shrouded in mystery, leaving many questions about the actual hardware differences between the two configurations.
It should be noted that, although this information outlines a coherent picture with the recent business strategies of expanding into the super-premium tier, we are still in speculative territory.
Until Cupertino executives take the stage for the official presentation, every detail regarding brand names, technical specifications and the price list must be evaluated with great caution.
Nevertheless, the manufacturer’s intention to further raise the quality of the offering for its more demanding customers remains evident.
