I Mi Fans are enjoying the new smartphones of the Redmi Note 15 series, freshly launched in Italy, and yet there is already talk about the future of the lineup. It seems Xiaomi could opt for a name change: nothing flashy, but a generational leap that would help align mid-range phones with the Xiaomi 17 family — in terms of numbering.
So there would not be a Redmi Note 16 series; instead, there would be a direct move to Redmi Note 17, Note 17 Pro and Note 17 Pro Max. There is no superstition behind such aversion to the number 16: with the current flagship generation the company led by Lei Jun has jumped from Xiaomi 15 to Xiaomi 17 and it is very likely that it was a strategy to align numerically with iPhone 17, the direct rival of the top family.
However this move has created a discrepancy with Redmi Note phones, which could seem one generation behind. To remedy this, even the brand’s mid-range could make a small leap forward.
According to what has leaked so far, the Chinese series should mirror what has been seen so far: below you will find the alleged internal codenames, the code name and the chipset on board.
You will have noticed the presence of a Pro Max model and unfortunately it is the price to pay for being enthusiasts of Chinese technology: Cupertino’s shadow always looms over us as an oppressive and constant presence. Leaks continue with some model numbers, but the identity of each smartphone is not yet clear:
Chi conosce Xiaomi e le indiscrezioni che riguardano il brand sa anche che in genere i numeri iniziali indicano il periodo di completamento dello sviluppo e di uscita. 2607, 2608 e 2609 sono dei riferimenti ai mesi centrali dell’anno ed è probabile che la serie Redmi Note 17 possa trovare spazio verso settembre (nel mercato cinese).
