Xiaomi 17 Ultra is among the best Camera Phones: close to the DxOMark Top 5

Like the rest of the current flagship phones, Xiaomi 17 Ultra has been scrutinized by the DxOMark team, a renowned platform for its judgments in photography. But how did the Chinese brand’s new Camera Phone perform?

And we’re going to explore it with particular interest, also because the global launch is just around the corner: whether at the end of February or during the MWC in Barcelona (from March 2 to 5), the new series is arriving in Italy.

The camera system chosen by Xiaomi for the new flagship is impressive and centers on a 50 MP Light Fusion 1050L main sensor with a 1″ size, supported by a 50 MP ultra-wide lens and a 200 MP periscopic telephoto lens.

Photography is the area where the Xiaomi 17 Ultra shows its maximum potential with a score of 170 compared to 157 points in the video category. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra excels particularly in the handling of detail and in controlling visual noise.

In tests, the camera demonstrated an extraordinary ability to preserve textures even on moving subjects, making it an ideal choice for those who want to capture dynamic scenes such as sports events or spontaneous life moments. The color rendition is faithful and white balance is accurate in the majority of situations, ensuring vivid yet natural images.

Another area where the device shines is the portrait mode, which thanks to Leica technology offers an extremely convincing bokeh effect. The zoom is also a definite strength, ranking among the top three devices worldwide on DxOMark for tele performance (Huawei Pura 80 Ultra and vivo X200 Ultra).

For the video department, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra offers solid performance, supporting Dolby Vision HDR recording at 4K/60 fps, but remains slightly behind the best competitors in the high-end range.

Although exposure and color rendering are generally reliable, some instability is noticeable in sudden light transitions. In low-light conditions, while night photos remain at the top for their richness of detail, videos tend to miss a beat.

Overall, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra proves to be an excellent Camera Phone: with its total of 166 points it ranks 6th on the DxOMark ranking, ahead of its predecessor (15th) and the recent Xiaomi 17 Pro Max (14th). The top-tier also surpasses Google Pixel 10 Pro XL and Honor Magic 8 Pro but fails to reach the levels of rivals such as Huawei Pura 80 Ultra, vivo X300 Pro, OPPO Find X8 Ultra, and iPhone 17 Pro.
