Sony fans? Don’t worry, new Xperia models arriving in Europe

Among companies closing their doors, others retreating from the high end, and not-so-convincing denials about corporate crises, the widespread fear is that the market could soon shrink to a duopoly dominated exclusively by Apple and Samsung.

However, in this uncertain scenario, comes an important reassurance for technology enthusiasts and for those seeking valid alternatives to the usual giants: Sony has no intention of abandoning the field.

New Sony Xperia certifications, some are models for Europe

Despite the Japanese giant diversifying its priorities, as evidenced by the recent partnerships in the television sector, the commitment to the mobile division remains solid. After a turbulent 2025, marked by sales that were not exciting and some technical criticisms of flagship models, many would have bet on a step back by Sony.

On the contrary, recent findings confirm that the company is ready to launch the next generation of devices, and the news is particularly encouraging for the Old Continent.

The most recent information comes from the GSMA IMEI database, where new model numbers have been identified that leave no room for doubt.

The emerging acronyms, identified by the specialized blog S-Max, refer to two distinct devices: the flagship Xperia 1 VIII and the mid-range model Xperia 10 VIII.

Good news for European consumers, less for Americans

Analyzing the codes reveals a fundamental detail for us Italian and European consumers. The identified variants feature numeric suffixes that, according to Sony’s usual classification, unequivocally indicate geographic destination. The presence of the final code “54” certifies the arrival of these smartphones in Europe, dispelling fears of a withdrawal from our market.

On the one hand, Europe can smile, but the same cannot be said for the United States. From the data analysis there are no traces of variants destined for the American market, confirming a trend that began already in 2023 with the lack of distribution of some flagship models overseas.

However, from our viewpoint, this selective strategy only serves to strengthen the position of the European market as one of the key territories for the survival of the Japanese brand in the mobile sector.

On the technical front, expectations are high. The new Xperia 1 VIII is expected to mount the powerful processor Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, aligning thus with the main competitors of 2026 such as the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. For the mid-range, represented by the Xperia 10 VIII, an update of the hardware platform with the Snapdragon 6 series is also expected, ensuring continuity and solid performance.

Sony’s persistence is a breath of fresh air for the diversity of the Android landscape. At a time when consumer choice risks thinning out drastically, knowing that a historic player continues to invest and offer its iconic devices in Europe is news to be welcomed with enthusiasm.

Despite recent difficulties, the brand seems determined to turn the page and regain users’ trust with updated hardware and targeted distribution that, fortunately, still sees us as protagonists.
