The February 26 event brought a wave of news for the Chinese tech giant: on one hand new wearables and on the other smartphones and tablets for the Western market. In addition to MatePad Mini, the flagship lineup is enriched with <strong Huawei Mate 80 Pro, now announced globally as well after several months since its debut in China.
Of the four models announced in November by Huawei, only one device debuts, and that’s enough. Huawei Mate 80 Pro is a flagship with all the bells and whistles and raises the bar after the excellent Pura 80 Ultra; the latter has arrived in Italy but for the Mate model there are currently no details.
Compared to its Pura cousin, the newcomer offers a completely different look: at the front there is a large display with a selfie camera and the sensors for the sblocco del volto 3D; on the back we have a large circular camera module, along with a secondary ring that creates an entirely new style.
The OLED display is a large unit, 6.75″ diagonally, with peak brightness up to 3,000 nit – for maximum readability in any situation. As usual when talking about Huawei (and especially the Mate family) the strong point is the camera system.
The 50 MP main sensor is equipped with optical image stabilization and a variable aperture from f/1.4 to f/4.0, along with a 40 MP ultra-wide, and a 48 MP periscope macro telephoto. Present is a True-to-Colour sensor, i.e., a multispectral module for color fidelity.
All of this is supported by the ninth-generation ISP and the XMAGE imaging system. Each sensor is equipped with the RYYB color filter, capable of passing about 40% more light than classic RGGB solutions (for better night performance and extended dynamic range).
Huawei Mate 80 Pro Global specs mirror those of the Chinese model; the only exceptions are connectivity (4G only for the West) and software, which moves from HarmonyOS 6 to EMUI 15.0. The Asian giant has not yet confirmed prices and availability, so we await details.
