After having claimed (albeit briefly) the title of the thinnest with the previous generation’s model, Honor is preparing to shift the focus to extreme durability with its upcoming foldable device.
The company will officially unveil the new Magic V6 at the beginning of March, during the Mobile World Congress, bringing to the market a device designed to withstand the most demanding physical stresses.
The competition in the foldable smartphone sector is no longer fought solely on reducing thickness, but on the ability to guarantee long-term reliability, definitively overcoming doubts related to structural fragility.
The previews provided by the company highlight high-level technical specifications on durability. The new Honor Magic V6 will boast IP68 and IP69 certifications, guaranteeing total protection against dust ingress and extremely high resistance to immersion and high-pressure water jets.
This is a notable step forward compared to competitors; the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 stops at an IP48 certification, for example.
However, the real star of the video is the new opening mechanism. Honor has engineered the new Super Steel Hinge with 2,800 MPa, using a special steel that the company defines as the strongest ever introduced in the commercial sector.
To demonstrate the exceptional structural integrity of this component, the manufacturer staged an unusual and spectacular test.
Through its social channels, Honor released the first video clips of a person suspended on a zipline, supported only by the Magic V6’s hinge. The complete results and the behind-the-scenes of this extreme test will be revealed directly on the MWC stage.
In addition to reinforcing the closing mechanism and the external shell, engineers worked to increase the rigidity of the flexible display. The Magic V6’s inner screen is protected by reinforced ultra-thin glass and treated with special low-reflectivity coatings.
This solution helps to reduce annoying glare and, at the same time, improve wear resistance from daily use.
From a purely aesthetic standpoint, the first official images reveal a device with a decidedly sophisticated look, presented in a bold red color?a>. The rear panel features a textured finish, framed by a golden metallic edge that gives the phone a very refined and elegant aesthetic footprint.
The island that houses the rear triple camera shows a familiar design, while the displays integrate the front sensors discreetly with a hole. The hinge has also been redesigned in its exterior appearance, offering a new texture.
The curtain on the new foldable will finally rise on March 1 during Honor’s keynote at the Mobile World Congress.
The Spanish trade show will serve as an international showcase not only for the Magic V6, but also for other surprising company novelties, including the unprecedented Honor Robot Phone and a humanoid robot.
Only on that occasion will all final details regarding the internal hardware, launch prices, and distribution timelines across various global markets be announced.
