Insider rumors about Apple‘s future devices are becoming increasingly insistent, although there are still many months before the official unveiling of the next generation of the iPhone.
Analysts’ attention is increasingly focused on the aesthetic choices, an aspect that has historically always influenced sales dynamics.
According to the well-known journalist Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the California company is currently testing a new red color for its upcoming models of iPhone 18 Pro.
Thanks to the move to a unibody aluminum chassis, a feature introduced with the previous family of devices, Apple designers now enjoy greater freedom in applying original colors to high-end smartphones.
This rumor marks a potential break with recent history, prior to the iPhone 17 series, during which the most expensive versions were offered in markedly sober and traditional tones.
The willingness to explore such bright and deep chroma is not by chance. At the moment, the variant Cosmic Orange of iPhone 17 Pro is recording exceptional sales results, particularly in the vast Chinese market.
Informally nicknamed by enthusiasts as the “Hermès orange“, this finish has quickly become a true symbol of prestige.
The introduction of a red chassis could replicate, or even amplify, this commercial success. In Asian culture, indeed, such a color is traditionally associated with luck, vitality and economic prosperity.
Gurman notes how the color proximity between red and orange could create some overlap in the proposed range, but does not at all rule out that the company’s leadership may decide to keep both to cater to an increasingly demanding clientele.
The idea of a red-painted Apple smartphone is not a first in the sector, especially considering the historic and prolonged collaborations for the Product (RED) series.
However, such a color option has been missing from catalogs since the base models presented in 2022 and has always been rigorously absent from the “Pro” line.
Over the months there have also been rumors about possible brown or purple shades, but experts suggest that these are simply technical variations of the same design concept centered on red.
While the classic lineup prepares to experiment with warm and bold tones, the situation appears diametrically opposed for the highly anticipated foldable smartphone from the brand. According to sources close to the company, for this new hardware the management will opt for an extremely cautious approach.
Consumers should expect very classic and minimalist options, such as dark gray, black, light silver or white.
This strategy is entirely in line with the brand’s history: being a scientifically complex and totally new product, limiting options helps to simplify and speed up assembly lines.
A similar script has already been seen in the past with the launch of the decade-anniversary model, iPhone X, which debuted on shelves with only two colors to optimize initial manufacturing yield.
