Xiaomi Slim: iPhone Air 2 and Samsung Galaxy S26 Edge will have a new rival

The ultrathin smartphone sector is one of the most controversial right now: this category of devices hasn’t fully convinced users, helped by the launch of high-priced flagship models — but with technical compromises.

However the debut of mid-range and upper-mid-range models has allowed for a kind of balance to be reached, but now the future of the category is in the hands of the next devices from the major brands.

Samsung and Apple are set to repeat their success in 2026, and now a rival is joining: Xiaomi Slim should be the first ultrathin device from Lei Jun’s house and could also overturn the fortunes of this range of devices.

Rumors about Xiaomi’s ultrathin date back to January 2025 but since then there have been no real advances — at least officially. It is likely that the flops of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge and the iPhone Air have slowed the Chinese company, or perhaps not?

The latest rumors preview part of the lineup of devices arriving in 2026, and, unexpectedly, Xiaomi Slim has surfaced. We don’t know if this will be the final name, but the name Xiaomi 17 Slim is also starting to circulate, perhaps more plausible.

Among other novelties there would also be the brand’s first tri-fold together with Xiaomi 17 Fold — with a book-like design — and a new clamshell model.
