The past few weeks have been filled with rumors and confirmations regarding Xiaomi’s upcoming mid-range phones – for the Chinese market. Now Redmi Turbo 5 and 5 Max have an official launch date: the new models are of interest to us in the West since they will come with a 9,000 mAh battery and are expected to debut globally under the POCO brand.

The launch event for Redmi Turbo 5 and 5 Max is set for January 29: as mentioned in the opening, the presentation is for China while the international version will have to wait a bit longer. However, it will be interesting to learn all the details of a pair of smartphones that promises to be quite noteworthy.
The design is now well known, with a large flat screen and metal edges, with a glass back featuring a dual-camera in a capsule module. The Max variant nods to Cupertino with a bright orange color, which has become one of the Chinese trends thanks to the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.
On the technical side, the base version will be powered by the Dimensity 8500 while the Max model has already demonstrated stellar performance on Antutu with the Dimensity 9500s and in terms of battery life in a dedicated test.
And the global launch?
For the global debut there is not yet a date but it is likely that the release is not far off — perhaps a matter of weeks. The link between Redmi and POCO is very strong and the new series should not be an exception from this point of view.
Redmi Turbo 5 is expected as POCO X8 Pro while the bigger brother should debut as POCO X8 Pro Max; the latter has long been certified, with its commercial name.
