In these days we are witnessing the technological wonders of CES 2026, but we know well that this is only part of the tech news behind the scenes. In these hours a Samsung patent has emerged showing one of the possible future designs of Galaxy Z Flip, with a clamshell style featuring a hinge that operates both outwardly and inwardly.
In fact, this is not the first time we’ve dealt with a similar device: at CES 2024 Samsung showed its Inside Out smartphone concept, i.e., featuring a display that folds both inward and outward.
This particular “inside-out” folding format traces its roots to the display Flex In & Out, which itself dates back to CES 2023. The existence of the new patent indicates that work is still ongoing: although Samsung’s foldable lineup has crystallized around the classic Z Fold and Z Flip, the company is nonetheless experimenting with new form factors.
The showcase also includes the launch of Galaxy Z TriFold, the manufacturer’s first tri-fold smartphone; certainly a device for a few, but it represents an important step for the future of foldables.
Returning to the new Flip Phone patent, as usual we are dealing with a model that might never see the light of day. However, its very existence demonstrates that Samsung is constantly seeking novel solutions to bring to its foldable range.
