Samsung is Getting Closer to Perplexity, with the ‘Hey Plex’ Command

In the future of Samsung and the Galaxy S26 series there is Perplexity AI, and the signs pointing in this direction are increasing rapidly. The latest development is dedicated to all Android devices, but with greater integration in the Korean manufacturer’s models.

In the Perplexity app’s code, the new command “Hey Plex” has been spotted, hinting at the arrival of an AI assistant to interact with, on par with Google Gemini.

As of now, you simply need to use the voice command “Hey Google” to summon Gemini on any Samsung device, so you can instantly access the new incarnation of Google’s AI assistant. However, things could change during 2026, in fact already with the debut of the Samsung Galaxy S26 family—expected for the end of February.

There has long been talk of a very close collaboration between Samsung and Perplexity: recently we had a glimpse with the new version of Bixby, planned alongside One UI 8.5. Moreover the Asian company is offering a year of Perplexity Pro subscription in the States and there is also a dedicated app for the manufacturer’s TVs.

However, the integration between these two realities could become quite tangible with the upcoming flagship models. In the latest version of the Perplexity app for Android (v2.69.3) the voice command “Hey Plex” was spotted, which should be able to activate the assistant even when the display is off — similar to how Gemini.

At the moment it’s not an available feature, but a capability that will be implemented at a later time. Additionally, it’s worth noting that the voice command will work with all Android smartphones and not only with Samsung.

Nevertheless, within the app there were found specific references to the Korean brand itself: the new voice command will be implemented on Galaxy devices with particular attention from Samsung and Perplexity. There are also various clues indicating that the Perplexity app will be preinstalled on some Galaxy devices.

The Galaxy S26 series is not explicitly mentioned, but it’s not hard to imagine that this novelty will find space on the upcoming flagship models.
