Remember the Galaxy Ring that swelled on a user’s finger? Samsung has concluded the investigations

When Samsung launched the Galaxy Ring in 2024, the anticipation from the public and the media was palpable. The device promised to radically change health monitoring through a form factor discreet and elegant, marking the entry of the South Korean giant into a market segment previously dominated by niche players.

However, the initial enthusiasm was partially overshadowed a few months ago by a piece of news that quickly spread across the web: a user had reporteda rather alarming incident in which his smart ring had become stuck on his finger due to a sudden battery swelling.

After about three months of operational silence, necessary to conduct in-depth examinations, Samsung has finally broken its silence sharing an official update on the matter, with the aim of clarifying the technical causes of the fault and reassuring users about the overall safety of the product.

The investigation conducted by Samsung was meticulous and took time precisely due to the delicate nature of the device, which by design has no user-serviceable parts and is hermetically sealed. According to the company, the battery swelling that trapped Daniel’s finger was caused by a fracture in the internal structure of the ring.

This crack would compromise the cell integrity, leading to the chemical reaction that caused the battery expansion.

However, despite identifying the structural damage as the triggering cause, the technicians were not able to determine with absolute certainty what caused the initial fracture in the internal plastic.

Nevertheless, despite this lingering question, the most relevant conclusion for consumers is that Samsung classified the event as an isolated case. At the end of the investigation, the company stated that there is no widespread risk to the safety of the Galaxy Ring batteries, thus dispelling the specter of a large-scale design defect.

Independent entity confirmation and the official position

To ensure maximum transparency and dispel any doubts about potential conflicts of interest, Samsung announced that it had involved an external independent agency in the analysis of the damaged device.

Third-party assessments have also confirmed the internal diagnosis: the issue stemmed from the specific break of the model in Daniel’s possession and not from an intrinsic flaw in the technology used.

In an official note, the tech giant reiterated that customer safety remains the absolute priority of the company. Samsung confirmed that it stayed in constant contact with the user throughout the investigation.

The statement highlights how the Galaxy Ring was designed specifically for everyday use, placing durability and resilience at the core of its engineering.

Therefore, users should not fear that the battery may swell during normal use of the device. The company nevertheless invites anyone with doubts to consult the customer support guides available on the official site for further information on troubleshooting.

The battery life issue

Parallel to resolving the swelling case, Samsung’s attention also turned to other reports from the community. Some Galaxy Ring owners, including Daniel himself, had complained about abnormal battery drain, higher than the claimed standards.

On this front as well, the company showed proactivity. Samsung explained that users experiencing excessive battery drain should contact customer support so that each case can be examined individually, suggesting that causes may vary from unit to unit.

As a demonstration of its commitment to post-sale support, just last month a firmware update aimed at addressing energy consumption issues on some units, stabilizing device performance and improving the overall user experience.
