After having surprised the market last year with the launch of the OnePlus 15, the Chinese company seems ready to redefine the standards of the industry once again when it comes to battery life.
New rumors that have emerged recently suggest that the next flagship, the OnePlus 16, could boast a battery upgrade so significant that it would make not only its predecessor pale, but also the entire competition among tech giants.
If the OnePlus 15, launched in October of last year, had already impressed critics and the public with its 7,300 mAh battery, the successor seems set to make another huge leap.
The latest leaks indicate that the OnePlus 16 will be equipped with a monstrous 9,000 mAh battery. It’s not a simple increase in raw capacity, but the use of the proprietary technology “Glacier Battery“.
Developed in partnership with CATL, this high-density technology allows integrating a massive energy capacity into standard-sized casings, while at the same time maintaining superior thermal management compared to traditional technologies.
This upgrade would place the OnePlus 16 in a category of its own, ready to challenge devices such as the Honor Win, which has been talked about for its 10,000 mAh battery.
However, given that the launch is planned for the fourth quarter of 2026, the market could see the arrival of other competitors with even higher capacities, signaling renewed interest from manufacturers in long-lasting autonomy.
In tests conducted on the OnePlus 15, its battery delivered exceptional endurance, easily surpassing last year’s flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the Pixel 10 Pro XL. If the rumors about the 9,000 mAh of the new model prove true, the gap with the direct competitors would become almost embarrassing for them.
Current projections for 2026, in fact, see the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 and S26 Ultra stopping at around 4,300 mAh and 5,200 mAh respectively.
In this scenario, the OnePlus 16 would offer almost double the capacity of Samsung’s base model, consolidating the Chinese brand’s position well above the “three big brands” (Google, Samsung and Apple) in terms of pure endurance, and all this while presumably maintaining a more competitive price.
Although there are still about nine months until the expected global debut in October, the technical specs of the OnePlus 16 are starting to take shape beyond the battery component.
Leaks from OnePlus Club suggest adopting a display with a refresh rate at 240 Hz. According to the well-known leaker Digital Chat Station, the device could also mount a 200 MP camera sensor, similar to what is expected on the Oppo Find N6, thus addressing one of the few criticisms raised about the previous model.
Another interesting development concerns the possible expansion of the lineup. Rumor has it that this year OnePlus may introduce a “Pro” or “Ultra” variant within the 16 line.
This would mean diversifying the lineup into three distinct models: the OnePlus 16 base, the OnePlus 16R, and a very high-end model, OnePlus 16 Pro or Ultra.
If these premises are confirmed, 2026 looks set to be a pivotal year for the brand, ready to offer a complete package that combines power, photography, and unprecedented autonomy.
