The Chinese manufacturer announced the new smartphones Magic 8 RSR Porsche Design and Magic 8 Pro Air, but during todays event there was also room for a wearable that had been missing from the lineup for several years. Honor Watch GS 5 puts the GS series in the spotlight since 2024 and does so by offering a premium-featured solution at a decidedly budget-friendly price. For now the launch has taken place in China but there may be good chances for a release here as well!
The real novelty of Honor Watch GS 5 lies in its health monitoring capabilities, being the first device in the sector to integrate a specific screening for the prevention of sudden cardiac arrest. This exclusive technology analyzes the deceleration force of the heart rate to evaluate the capacity of the vagus nerve to regulate the heart, allowing the timely identification of potential risks.
Thanks to the collaboration with the team of Professor Gu Dongfeng (from the Chinese Academy of Sciences), Honor has implemented a cardiovascular and cerebrovascular risk assessment model that generates personalized recommendations for the user.
Besides these advanced features, the smartwatch continuously monitors nocturnal apnea, arrhythmias and premature beats, offering comprehensive and proactive protection 24/7.
In terms of autonomy, the Watch GS 5 uses a silicon-carbon anode battery of 495 mAh, capable of delivering up to 23 days of use on a single charge. Even with the Always-on Display mode enabled, the device ensures about 9 days of operation. The device is equipped with a 1.32″ AMOLED display with a peak brightness of 1500 nits, ensuring perfect readability even in direct sunlight.
With an ultra-light body weighing only 26 grams and a thickness of less than ten millimeters, the watch combines the elegance of aluminum on the front with the durability of reinforced polymer fiber on the back.
The user experience is enriched by smart features designed for daily life and productivity. The device includes a system of smart reminders for trips, flights and high-speed trains, notifying important events in real time directly on the wrist.
Bluetooth call support, the NFC payments and a precise GNSS positioning system for outdoor activities are also included.
The new Honor Watch GS 5 was launched in China at a price of 699 yuan, about €86 at the current exchange rate. The previous model has arrived in Italy, so it isnt out of the question that this novelty could also reach our latitudes – perhaps during the warmer months.
