The Honor Magic 8 Pro Air battery won’t make you miss traditional smartphones

For years, the world of smartphones has accustomed us to a binary choice: an elegant and slim design or an autonomy capable of lasting the entire day. Those who desired a slim device had to resign themselves to carrying a power bank, while those seeking longevity found themselves with bulky ‘bricks’ in their pockets.

Honor seems, however, to have found the key to breaking this paradigm with its upcoming Magic 8 Pro Air, which will have a battery with surprising capacity.

The Chinese brand has officially confirmed that the new device will be unveiled on January 19, but the details that have emerged so far already paint a surprising picture.

The Magic 8 Pro Air presents itself with a thickness of just 6.1 millimeters and a feather-light weight of 155 grams. To put it into perspective, we are looking at numbers that typically belong to devices made from cheap materials or models that forgo advanced hardware components.

However, the real engineering magic lies in the fact that, despite this ethereal chassis, Honor has not eliminated premium features.

The rear photography system, for example, is not at all an accessory: it houses a 50 MP main sensor of large size (type 1/1.3″) and, incredibly, a 64 MP periscope telephoto camera. Fitting a periscope lens into such a slim body is a technical challenge that few manufacturers have dared to face, and even fewer have succeeded.

An incredibly capacious battery

The most striking news, however, concerns the autonomy. Honor has finally unveiled the Magic 8 Pro Air’s battery capacity, stating a value of 5,500 mAh. While this figure may seem lower than some of the energy monsters seen on other Chinese brands that use silicon-carbon (Si/C) technologies, the figure becomes astonishing when contextualized.

The comparison most ruthless is with the sector giants: this unit is, ironically, the 10% more capacious battery than the one mounted on the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, a device that boasts dimensions and thickness much more generous.

Honor claims to have achieved this result by using the battery with the highest energy density ever inserted into a flagship smartphone, reaching the 917 Wh/L. This density value is the secret that allows storing so much energy in such a small physical space.

To complete the picture, the device supports a 80W fast wired charging and a 50W wireless charging, ensuring that downtime is minimized.

It’s not just about aesthetics and autonomy. Recent appearances in Geekbench’s database have confirmed that under the hood beats the SoC MediaTek Dimensity 9500, paired with as much as 16 GB of RAM.

This configuration suggests that the device will be able to handle heavy workloads, from gaming to advanced multitasking, without showing slowdowns.
