The evolution of Google Search takes a new, decisive step toward an increasingly more conversational and integrated user experience.
Big G has announced an update to its search infrastructure, introducing substantial changes that affect both the “engine” that powers the responses, and the interface with which users interact daily.
This is a strategy aimed at making the now well-known AI Overview not only smarter, but the starting point for a true back-and-forth exploration via Q&A.
The first major update concerns the underlying AI. Starting today, the AI Overview, i.e., the AI-generated summaries that appear at the top of search results, will be globally based on Gemini 3, the most advanced model developed by Google.
Although Gemini 3 had already debuted in the search ecosystem in November 2025, starting to specifically power the AI Mode, its widespread expansion into general overviews is a further step forward.
The goal of Mountain View is to address past criticisms and drastically improve the quality of the summaries offered.
Thanks to the implementation of this new model, users worldwide will notice greater accuracy, faster execution speed, and, above all, a level of detail and completeness in the responses that previous iterations struggled to reach.
However, the most tangible update for the end user lies in the new interface. Until yesterday, consulting an AI Overview was a static experience: you read the summary and, if you wanted to dive deeper, you often had to restart the search or navigate among the suggested links. With this update, Google aims to break down the barriers between search and conversational assistance.
The new feature transforms the “Show more” button (or the options to expand the text) into a true gateway to AI Mode.
When a user decides to deepen a topic covered in the initial overview, the interface automatically switches to a chat mode.
The system thus preserves the context of the original search, allowing you to ask back-and-forth questions without having to repeat previously read information. It is no longer about querying a database, but about dialoguing with an assistant that remembers what was just read.
The philosophy behind this update mirrors the dual nature of modern online searches. As highlighted in the official press release, people use Google for diametrically opposite purposes: sometimes they need a dry and immediate data point, such as the result of a game or the weather forecast; other times, however, they face complex tasks that require reasoning and depth.
Internal tests conducted by the tech giant have shown that users prefer a naturally flowing experience toward conversation when the topic requires it.
The new integration aims precisely to bridge the gap between quick information and deep analysis. It is a single experience: a quick instant when time is tight, and a structured conversation when curiosity or necessity demands it.
This feature is rolling out globally on mobile devices, confirming Google’s intent to keep the search bar at the center of the digital experience, no longer as a simple indexing tool.
