OPPO has officially announced in China the new Watch S2, the brand’s first smartwatch to introduce the FatMax mode, designed to calculate in a personalized way the most effective heart rate zone for burning fat. The launch also brings some hardware updates compared to the previous generation, all at a very attractive price.
OPPO Watch S2, everything you need to know: display, design and sensors
The round dial of OPPO Watch S2 houses a 1.46″ AMOLED panel, resolution 464 x 464 pixels and a 60 Hz refresh rate, protected by glass with an ultra-thin bezel of 1.49 mm. Brightness reaches 600 nits in standard mode, 1,500 nits under sunlight and a peak of 3,000 nits.
The system is powered by the Hengxuan BES2800BP processor, paired with 4 GB of storage and eMMC. It is the same chip that powered the previous Watch S and that acts as coprocessor for the Watch X2 and X3 models.
On the design front, we find a stainless steel case (as the predecessor); the thickness is 8.9 mm for a weight of 34.4 grams, in line with the features of the first Watch S. The available colors are Vibrant Orange, Misty Powder and Mountain Shadow Grey.
FatMax and health sensors
The distinctive novelty is the FatMax mode, which calculates the ideal heart rate zone for burning fat by combining data such as training capacity, resting heart rate, height, weight, age and sex, with an algorithm that adapts over time to the user’s fitness level.
To support it there is an ECG sensor, an 8-channel optical heart rate sensor with a stated accuracy of 98.8% during exercise, a 16-channel oxygen saturation sensor and a high-sensitivity sensor for skin temperature. OPPO Watch S2 supports over 100 sport modes, of which 14 are professional.
Up to 10 days of battery life, 90-minute recharge
The 330 mAh battery provides up to 10 days of autonomy under optimal conditions, dropping to 7 days with normal use and 4 days with Always-On enabled; full recharge takes about 90 minutes.
The software is ColorOS Watch 17, with status windows for ongoing activities, remote control of the smartphone camera and simultaneous pairing with two phones. Beidou dual-frequency satellite positioning, NFC and water resistance up to 5 ATM are also included.
Price and Watch X3, the titanium variant
OPPO Watch S2 debuts in China at a price of 1,599 yuan (about €208 at the current exchange rate). Along with the new model, OPPO also introduced Watch X3 in a titanium-case variant priced at 2,799 yuan (about €364).
Probably the Watch S2 will join the lineup coming to Italy (since the first chapter arrived here), but for now there is no confirmation. Meanwhile the company has revealed the Italian release date for OPPO Find X10 and Find X10 Pro Max, set for October 21.
