Since Samsung extended its flagship update promise to seven years, it has accustomed the public to much longer support cycles than in the past.
Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, launched in 2021, were still within the old policy, the one that guaranteed a maximum of five years of updates: a cycle that has now ended, with the two foldables no longer listed among the devices supported on Samsung’s official security updates page.
Galaxy Z Fold 3 updates: five years of support, from launch to the last patch
Launched with Android 11 and One UI 3, Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 have accompanied users up to Android 15, released in 2024 as the last major update of their software life cycle. From that moment on, the two foldables continued to receive only monthly security patches, now also terminated.
With the debut of the new range in July, those still owning a Flip 3 can look to the Galaxy Z Flip 8 as the natural next step, while those with a Fold 3 can aim for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra to stay on the same form factor, or the Galaxy Z Fold 8 as an alternative with a redesigned chassis.
All three of the most recent models arrive with One UI 9 based on Android 17, software support guaranteed until 2034 and AI-powered features such as Now Brief and Creative Studio.
