Xiaomi has officially presented the POCO X8, the new mid-range that focuses entirely on battery life: the silicon-carbon battery of 8,340 mAh is among the most capacious seen on a device in this tier, and arrives accompanied by an IP69K resistance certification, one of the most complete in the industry, in addition to the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection.
However, this is a device that we will almost certainly not see in our region, and there is a good reason.
POCO X8: everything you need to know about Xiaomi’s new mid-range
In reality the new POCO X8 is nothing more than the POCO-branded version of Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G, also recently launched in Italy. The device has undergone only minimal changes in the specifications and a slight restyle, but otherwise we are dealing with the same terminal.
The display is an AMOLED panel of 6.83″ with a resolution of 2,772 x 1,280 pixels (1.5K), a density of 447 PPI and a refresh rate up to 120 Hz. The touch sampling rate is 240 Hz, with instantaneous peaks of 3,200 Hz in Game Turbo mode: useful for both daily tasks responsiveness and gaming.
The declared brightness is 1,060 nits typical and 3,500 nits peak, with a contrast ratio of 8,000,000:1, a 12-bit DCI-P3 color gamut and PWM dimming at 3,840 Hz combined with DC dimming down to 1 nit of minimum brightness.
The panel has obtained TÜV Rheinland certifications for reduced blue light, circadian rhythm and absence of flicker. Driving it all is the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 processor at 4 nm, an octa-core with an Adreno GPU and a clock speed up to 2.4 GHz, with a Xiaomi-stated AnTuTu score of 946,548 points.
Battery, charging and durability certifications
The silicon-carbon battery of 8,340 mAh promises, according to Xiaomi, an autonomy “over 2 days”. Wired HyperCharge charging reaches 67W, with support for 22.5W reverse charging and USB PD 2.0/3.0 standards via USB-C.
The company stated that the battery retains at least 80% of the original capacity after 1,600 cycles of charging, equal to about 6 years of typical use, with TÜV SÜD 5-star certification for battery performance.
Camera, durability and underwater mode
The rear photography setup consists of a 50 MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), 0.64 μm pixels and f/1.85 aperture, paired with a 2 MP depth sensor with f/2.4; the front camera is 16 MP, 1 μm pixels and f/2.45 aperture.
On the software side, there are AI Portrait features, AI Creativity Assistant (with AI Glare Removal and AI Erase Pro) and front/rear video simultaneous recording.
In terms of durability, POCO X8 earns certifications IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K, passing 72-hour tests at 2 meters depth (TÜV SÜD 5-star certification) and a 3-meter drop test on SGS-certified granite surface.
The device also includes a dedicated underwater mode, allowing you to take photos up to 2 meters depth for 30 minutes in static freshwater, thanks to Wet Touch Technology 2.0 that enables continued touchscreen use even when the screen is wet.

Price and availability
We conclude with a panoramic view of the price in Europe (in the countries where it will be marketed): POCO X8 was announced in 8/256 GB and 12/256 GB versions, respectively at €399 and €449. There is also a 6/128 GB variant, but it will not be marketed in European markets.
