POCO is preparing to launch two new smartphones on the Indian market, revealed in advance by a recent leak that includes what appear to be official marketing materials.
The devices, known as POCO X8 and POCO X8 Power, heavily emphasize endurance, boasting exceptionally large batteries and interesting mid-range specifications.
The arrival is expected for the beginning of September and they are anticipated to be more affordable options than the POCO X8 Pro.
POCO X8 and X8 Power will be endurance powerhouses
According to the leaks, both models share a large AMOLED display of 6.83 inches. This panel promises a peak brightness of 3,500 nit. The protection is entrusted to the robust Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
An interesting detail is the resistance to the elements: leaked documents indicate certifications IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K for both smartphones, ensuring high protection against dust and water.
The main differences between the two devices lie in the processor and the camera department.
The POCO X8 standard would be equipped with the chipset Snapdragon 6s Gen 4. The main rear camera features a 50 MP sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS), while the front camera sits at 16 MP for selfies.
The POCO X8 Power, instead, takes a leap forward in performance relying on the more powerful Snapdragon 6 Gen 5. The camera setup is enhanced compared to the base model, pairing the main sensor from 50 MP with an ultrawide camera of 8 MP. The front camera also receives a notable upgrade, moving to 32 MP for sharper selfies.
The real strength is battery life
The real strength of this new POCO series is battery life. The POCO X8 performs well with a 9,000 mAh battery, supported by 67 W fast wired charging. It also offers reverse wired charging at 22.5 W, allowing to use the smartphone as a power bank for other devices.
The POCO X8 Power pushes the bar even higher, integrating a massive 10,000 mAh battery. The charging speed also increases significantly, reaching 100 W, for shorter charging times despite the enormous capacity. Reverse wired charging is present on this model as well, reaching 27 W.
Suspicious Similarities
The leak raises an interesting point about the origin of these smartphones. The leaked specifications show notable similarities with other devices, suggesting that these are rebranding operations.
Specifically, the POCO X8 appears to be a rebranded version of the Redmi Note 17 Pro, while the POCO X8 Power could derive from the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max, albeit with some slight differences.
A reassuring element for users is the promise of long software support: 4 OS updates and 6 years of security patches for both models.
