Xiaomi has expanded its range of smart projectors with the new Redmi Projector 5 and Redmi Projector 5 Pro, two models designed for different price ranges and uses. Both were announced in China and share some elements, including native Full HD resolution, support for images up to 120 inches, and an adjustable chassis that allows projection onto the wall or even the ceiling.
The standard model represents the most affordable option of the new lineup, while the larger Pro brother introduces higher brightness, more complete hardware and features designed also for sports and gaming.
Redmi Projector 5 Focuses on Price
The starting price of the series is only 999 yuan, about €128 at the current rate. Despite the budget range, Redmi Projector 5 offers interesting features and doesn’t skimp on capabilities.
The device includes a 360° rotatable metal stand, which allows freely adjusting the tilt and projecting the image on a wall or directly onto the ceiling. The chassis features a white and gray finish, while the sealed optical engine limits dust ingress into the internal components.
The native resolution is 1080p (Full HD), with a maximum diagonal of 120″, brightness up to 400 CVIA lumens and SGS certification for low blue light emission (to reduce eye strain).
The initial configuration is simplified by a ToF laser module, used for automatic focus and for the trapezoidal correction. The system can quickly adjust the image after movement and enables side projections with a maximum angle of 20°.
The hardware includes a MediaTek MT9-series processor, paired with 1 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory. A Bluetooth remote with support for voice search and playback controls is also included.
On the connectivity front there is dual-band Wi-Fi, wireless mirroring from smartphones and computers, and several ports for connecting external devices. Redmi Projector 5 is also compatible with HyperConnect and can be integrated with smart home automations alongside other Xiaomi products, such as lights and blinds.
Redmi Projector 5 Pro Reaches Up to 120 Hz
Redmi Projector 5 Pro sits higher in the lineup but still offers an affordable price, in Xiaomi’s sub-brand spirit.
Again, the native resolution is Full HD and the maximum diagonal reaches 120″, but brightness rises to 1,000 lumen CVIA. The projector also supports HDR10 and offers a refresh rate of 120 Hz, a stated latency of 5 ms and the MEMC technology.
These features are designed to reduce blur and judder in fast-paced scenes, such as sports events, action movies and games.
The design features a white and gray finish, with a fabric cover on the front. The built-in stand allows vertical adjustment up to 150°, while the lateral correction reaches 30°.
For automatic configuration, a ToF sensor, a high-definition camera and AI-based algorithms are used. The system autonomously handles focusing, trapezoidal correction, screen alignment, and obstacle detection.
There is also a feature for color adaptation to the wall, capable of adjusting image parameters based on the surface used for projection.
The specifications include the MediaTek MT9660 chipset, 2 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. The cooling system uses dual internal and external circulation, with a declared noise level of 28 dB(A).
The audio section comprises two 10W speakers, with Dolby Audio support. Among the connections are two HDMI ports, a USB 2.0 port and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Redmi Projector 5 Pro also supports dual-band Wi-Fi 6, wireless screen transmission, Xiaomi HyperConnect and the XiaoAI voice assistant.
Prices and Availability
Redmi Projector 5 is available in China at 999 yuan (about €128 at current exchange), while the higher Redmi Projector 5 Pro is offered at 1,899 yuan, about €243 at current exchange. At the moment there are no details on international release: Xiaomi typically brings its projectors to Global markets while the Redmi models (more affordable) remain exclusive to China.
