The world’s most famous e-commerce has announced the official debut of Amazon Family, a new feature that allows Prime members to share several benefits with another adult in their household, without having to use the same Amazon account.
The news was announced today and will be progressively available to all Italian customers in the coming days.
What is Amazon Family and what are the benefits
With the new Family service, the Prime subscription holder becomes the Amazon Family Administrator and can invite another adult from the household to share several benefits included in the subscription.
The most interesting aspect is that each person continues to use their own Amazon account, keeping separate order history, personalized recommendations and personal settings. It is therefore not necessary to share usernames or passwords to access Prime services.
Which Prime benefits can be shared and what remains private
Amazon Family allows sharing several services included in the Prime subscription, including:
- Prime fast and unlimited deliveries;
- Amazon Music Prime;
- exclusive offers and dedicated promotions, including events like Prime Day and Prime Deals Festival;
- Prime Video (with ads);
- Amazon Luna.
Despite sharing Prime benefits, each user keeps their own private space. The following remain separate:
- order history;
- personalized recommendations;
- account security, without the need to share passwords or one-time codes.
How shared payment works
To activate Amazon Family, the administrator must select a payment method to share with the other family member.
When the other member makes a purchase, they can choose whether to use the shared payment method or a personal one. If they use the shared method, they will only see some card information, such as:
- last four digits;
- cardholder name;
- expiration date;
- billing address.
The administrator will instead receive a notification with the total amount of the purchase made using the shared method.
How to activate Amazon Family
The setup takes only a few steps: simply access the My Account section and select Your Amazon Family, from which you can invite another adult from the household.
After the invitation is accepted, the new member immediately gains access to the shared benefits. Family management and related settings are handled via the Family Hub, from which you can also view personalized recommendations for Prime Video and Amazon Luna.
How much does Amazon Family cost and when will it be available
The Family service has no extra cost, simply the main user must have an active Prime subscription. Remember that in Italy Amazon Prime is available at 4.99€ per month or 49.90€ per year; there is also a 30-day free trial for eligible customers.
Finally the American giant confirmed that the Family option will be rolled out progressively to all Italian customers in the coming days.
