The arrival of the Liquid Glass design on Apple devices has created a kind of fear across the Android world. We all expect translucent elements in the new major update of the OS of the green robot, but we take for granted that we will have to deal with Chinese manufacturers who will push it to extremes.
Fortunately, OPPO will not be among these: the company itself confirms it — in a post on the social network Weibo — clarifies its position and reveals what will be the focus of ColorOS 17, its new proprietary interface.
OPPO reveals some details about ColorOS 17: what will be the focus of the new UI
Everything starts from a leak by Digital Chat Station, published at the start of the month: according to the insider, the upcoming ColorOS 17 will have a Cupertino-inspired design with translucent elements. The Chinese manufacturer should adopt an approach definable as liquid acrylic, rather than a true glass effect.
Recently the matter has been revisited due to yet another leak from the same figure. In reality this would be HyperOS 4, even if the insider does not explicitly mention the software: the elements in question would be the glass effect with light play and AI-driven adaptive color selection. The aesthetics shouldn’t change but the details would make the difference.
Many Chinese users on Weibo have speculated about the next version of OPPO’s interface, to the point of pushing Chen Xi (one of the software leads) to intervene. The Design Director clarified that the post published by Digital Chat Station would not refer to them: another brand (the name is not mentioned) would have chosen to adopt glass-like visual effects, but not OPPO.
So ColorOS 17 will not have a design inspired by Cupertino’s Liquid Glass. In fact, the official notes that the new UI will focus mainly on the user experience, putting aside any changes to the graphical interface.
The first phase will be entirely dedicated to optimizing performance and refining daily usability. The new features will be introduced later, as has happened in the past. The presentation is expected in the month of September, together with the Find X10 lineup: however, the company has not yet confirmed the release window.
From our point of view, we remain skeptical: Chen Xi has hinted that there will still be small visual optimizations, so we take for granted that OPPO won’t miss out on the current design. Likely, some elements and details with a glass effect will be introduced but without excess.
