Apple seems ready to take a decisive step in its strategy, increasingly embracing a specific denomination for its premium devices.
The most recent rumors indicate, in fact, that the long-awaited first folding smartphone of the company will not bear the name “iPhone Fold“, as previously hypothesized. Company executives would have opted for the nomenclature “iPhone Ultra“, confirming the intention to create a clearly superior category of products, in terms of features and price, compared to traditional series.
This choice aligns with what has been seen in the past with devices such as the Apple Watch Ultra and the M-series processors, highlighting a clear desire to distinguish the most expensive and exclusive models.
The iPhone Ultra, however, will not be the only product included in this new range in the coming months.
Apple gears up for a 2026 in the era of the “Ultra”

The launch dynamics of this new device have peculiar characteristics. According to sources, the iPhone Ultra will be independent from the main lineup and will not carry the number 18 in its commercial name, following the strategy recently adopted with the iPhone Air.
The official presentation is scheduled for the September event, in conjunction with the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models.
Although the brand is working hard to ensure a simultaneous release in autumn, it is highly likely that the foldable model will arrive on shelves with a few weeks of delay and in limited quantities.
Meanwhile, the base versions of the smartphone and the Air model will not receive updates by the end of the year: their renewal has been postponed to the first half of 2027, a period in which the iPhone 18e will also make its debut.
L’arrivo del primo MacBook touchscreen
Development plans are not limited to the phone sector. Rumors confirm ongoing work on an unreleased MacBook Ultra, a laptop that will introduce technologies never before seen on the company’s devices, including an OLED display and touchscreen functionality.
It will be a device that is significantly more expensive than the current MacBook Pro models, offering an entirely new package of features and leaving the Pro models as the more affordable alternative.
However, its availability on the market will be delayed. Initially scheduled for the current year, the release of the MacBook Ultra has been rescheduled for the early months of 2027 due to global issues related to the supply of RAM memory modules.
Uno sguardo al futuro tra tablet e accessori
According to rumors, this extreme positioning strategy will gradually involve the entire ecosystem of the company.
Among the devices under study are a very high-end variant of AirPods, which could incorporate tiny cameras, and a future M5 Ultra processor intended for the most powerful desktop computers, such as the Mac Studio.
Furthermore, the next candidate for the premium label seems to be the home tablet. For some time there have been rumors about an iPad Ultra, characterized by larger dimensions or even a foldable form factor.
According to what has emerged, the development of this specific device represents an absolute priority for the new CEO John Ternus, confirming the company’s direction towards a family of products that are increasingly sophisticated.
