Xiaomi 18 Pro and Pro Max will arrive for everyone: Global launch earlier than expected

Xiaomi 18 Pro is almost official in China and earns a notable first: it is the first smartphone in the world to mount the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, freshly released. But the news most awaited by Western markets is another, confirmed directly by a Xiaomi executive during Qualcomm’s presentation event: the Pro series will also arrive globally, something that hadn’t happened since the Xiaomi 13 Pro in 2023.

Xiaomi 18 Pro: chip, camera and global launch

The new processor, built with 2-nanometer technology, integrates Qualcomm’s proprietary Oryon CPU with peak frequencies above 5.0 GHz, the Adreno 850 GPU with Neural Fusion technology for AI-based image enhancement, and the enhanced Hexagon NPU.

According to data released by Qualcomm and reported by Xiaomi, the new platform delivers a 13% performance increase, 37% higher energy efficiency, and 15% greater responsiveness compared to the previous generation.

For the first time, Qualcomm has decided to double with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Elite Extreme Gen 6, the enhanced variant. Xiaomi has officially confirmed that the 18 Pro will mount the Elite version while the 18 Pro Max will be the first in the world with Elite Extreme.

Dual Leica 200 MP cameras and a display with slim bezels

On the photography front, the Xiaomi 18 Pro series features a dual Leica 200 MP sensor with AI-enhanced features. Take a look at the official sample photos for a preview of the flagship’s capabilities.

The front display is bright and features slim bezels, while on the back there is space for the iconic rear display. Additionally, for the first time Xiaomi has introduced the hardware Privacy Display feature, able to obscure the panel from a side view. The anti-spy solution is similar to what was seen on the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Global launch confirmed by Xiaomi

During the presentation dedicated to the new Snapdragon, Adam Zeng (SVP and President of Xiaomi’s International Business Division) confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Pro series will arrive in international markets during 2026. The Pro variants launched had remained China-exclusive for years, but this time Lei Jun’s company has chosen to change the game.

Additionally, the timing change is notable, since Xiaomi typically presents its top-of-the-line global models during Barcelona’s MWC (i.e., in the first quarter of the new year).
