Samsung drops two useful apps; they’ll return, but no date is known yet

Samsung is preparing to retire two notable augmented reality (AR) applications from its Galaxy series devices: AR Doodle and Quick Measure.

The permanent deactivation of the two services is scheduled for December 31, 2026. Those who already have the software installed on their smartphones will be able to continue using them, but the lack of future updates will render them progressively unstable and obsolete.

The company has officially announced the decision, assuring users the release of more advanced versions in the future, though without specifying any precise timeline for this transition.

For some time, Galaxy smartphone users have been able to leverage the capabilities of the augmented reality through practical and creative tools offered by default on the devices.

Key figures in this sector include Quick Measure, a utility designed to calculate physical distances in the real world using the smartphone’s sensors and camera, and AR Doodle, a program designed to draw virtual elements overlaid in real time onto the physical environments captured.

Both solutions have proven practical in multiple contexts, but their current lifecycle is coming to an end.

Information shown on the Galaxy Store pages confirms that the two platforms will be closed by the end of 2026.

This decision will definitively block access to new downloads and mark the end of any support. The programs will not stop working suddenly the day after the deadline, however subsequent operating system updates will inevitably break compatibility, making the apps unusable over time.

To confirm this separation, it seems the manufacturer has already hidden the pages of the two applications for those browsing the store using the latest One UI interface, making them invisible.

The company’s statement and the promise of development

To clarify the situation for users, Samsung has issued an official note, which reads:

Please note that the service for the Quick Measure app will end on December 31, 2026.

After this date, new downloads and the support for updating the existing app will be stopped. It is possible to continue using the app if it has already been downloaded, but please be aware that some features may not work correctly.

Additionally, support for the Quick Measure app compatibility will no longer be provided for future OS updates.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank all our customers for their loyal use of the Quick Measure app. We are committed to returning with improved services in the future“.

At the moment, no precise timelines have been provided regarding the arrival of the replacements mentioned in the statement. The promise to introduce higher-quality services suggests that the company does not intend to abandon augmented reality, but the prolonged disappearance of these useful tools remains a loss for loyal users, who will have to wait before they can download the new versions.
