In recent years robotic vacuum cleaners have made giant strides, to the point that suction power alone now tells only a small part of the story. High-end models vacuum, mop, recognize obstacles and return autonomously to the base, so the real difference is increasingly on the quality of washing and on the amount of maintenance that remains for us to do, which, let’s be clear, is a real nuisance, especially if you have pets at home, and I know something about it.
And it is precisely from here that the new Narwal Freo 20 starts. On paper the numbers are important, suction up to 31,000 Pa, dual RGB camera, fully automated base, but the most interesting feature is the new FlowWash system, which abandons the classic rotating mops in favor of a true belt mop. During washing it is continuously fed with clean water and cleaned of the dirt collected, with the aim of avoiding one of the most common problems of floor-cleaning robots, namely continuing to pass over the floor with a rag that is now dirty.
After using it, however, it is clear that Freo 20 does not revolve around a single technology. Narwal has worked simultaneously on washing, suction, hair management, navigation and base automation, aiming above all to create a robot that requires the least possible amount of manual interventions.

Design and Materials
From an aesthetic point of view Narwal continues on the path taken with the latest models in the Freo family; the robot has very clean lines, all white and above all rather slim, as it measures just 95 mm in height, thanks also to the integration of the navigation system into the body. This allows it to slip more easily under beds, sofas and furniture where robots with the protruding LiDAR turret can encounter greater difficulties. The body measures about 351 x 364 mm and weighs 4.9 kg.
Even more interesting is the work done on the station, though: the bases of premium robots are inevitably getting bigger and the Freo 20 is no exception, but Narwal has at least tried to make it look less like a technical appliance. The front features a woven finish that almost resembles a textile coating and hides from view both the dust bag and the tanks. It’s a purely aesthetic choice, of course, but when a base measures about 43 x 40 x 46 cm and weighs almost 10 kg, being able to integrate it better into the decor is not a secondary detail.
It is a virtually complete station: the Freo 20 can automatically empty the dust container, fill the internal tank, wash the mop and dry it with hot air at 60 °C. The 2.4-liter bag is designed to last, according to Narwal, up to 120 days before replacement, naturally with a real lifespan that will depend on the amount of dirt present in the home and especially on the frequency set for domestic cleaning. The base also includes a removable filter, a small but important detail when it comes time to perform a deeper cleaning which, as I mentioned at the start, can be more annoying if you have long-haired pets inside the house.
Suction Power and Washing Quality
The declared 31,000 Pa are one of those numbers that inevitably grab attention, but on vacuum robots maximum power tells only part of the experience. What matters is being able to collect dirt, dust, crumbs and hair without having to repeatedly go over the same areas, and the difference is right here where the Freo 20 makes it: the power is ample and the robot can automatically adjust speed, suction and the number of passes when cameras detect a higher concentration of debris. According to Narwal’s statistics, with this system efficiency increases by 99%; I would be a bit more cautious than the percentages the brand speaks about, but in my stress tests with plenty of crumbs, it managed to suction and clean the area in shorter times than similar-segment robots.
Particular attention was also given to hair, and consequently to pet fur; the main brush uses the DualFlow Anti-Tangle system, with a geometry designed to guide hairs toward the free end of the roller rather than letting them wrap around the center. The side brush can also reverse its movement to free hairs left trapped. It is a particularly interesting solution because it reduces one of the most annoying maintenance interventions of any robot vacuum, namely detangling the brushes from the pile of hair that accumulates.
In washing operations, then, Freo 20 raises the level further, because instead of two classic circular mops we find a wide microfiber belt, 266 x 55 mm, which offers a much larger contact surface. What is particularly interesting is what happens while the robot moves: 16 nozzles continuously distribute clean water onto the mop, while a blade removes residues and dirty water and a suction system directs them to the respective tank. In other words, the cloth is progressively cleaned during washing and not only when the robot returns to the base, a very convenient operating logic especially if there are wet and greasy stains on the floor, which tend to smudge the roller even on short trips.
To this, there is a floor pressure of 12 N and water up to 60 °C during washing, which is also particularly useful, for example in the kitchen, with the dirt that accumulates after meals; in every scenario the result is very convincing with prints, liquids wiped away and everyday dirt, with the advantage of leaving fewer streaks than many traditional systems. However, miracles should not be expected: very old stains, encrusted or particularly sticky stains can still require manual intervention, a limitation that affects practically the entire category, more than the Freo 20 in particular
The edge handling is very good as well, because both the mop and the side brush can extend outward, a detail that allows the robot to get closer to baseboards and furniture, up to about 5 mm from the edge while maintaining pressure and water distribution. Once it returns to the base, the cycle continues: the washing system uses water that can reach up to 100 °C to clean the mop, the dirty water circuit and internal components, before the hot air drying. Therefore, pay attention to the distinction: the 60 °C refers to floor washing, while the temperature up to 100 °C is reached during the cleaning cycle in the station.
Software and Smartphone App
A robot so rich in sensors could easily become a product difficult to configure, but the Narwal app remains fairly intuitive. After the first mapping you can divide the rooms, create room-by-room routines, set forbidden zones and choose whether to suction, wash, do both, or suction before starting washing.
The most interesting part, however, is letting the Freo Mind 4.0 system work; the robot uses information collected from the sensors to autonomously modify behavior based on the dirt encountered, adjusting parameters such as suction, amount of water, and number of passes. The base can also automatically manage the frequency of emptying and drying the mop, reducing the need to intervene manually on individual settings.
The navigation leverages the TwinAI Dodge system, based on two RGB cameras paired with structured light, which therefore does not simply detect that there is an obstacle in front of the robot, but tries to understand what it is observing to adjust the path accordingly, and I must say that compared to previous generations, I found increasingly accurate detection, with very few hesitations, only when facing difficulties of a certain kind. There are also some more special features like the Pet Care Mode which allows recognizing animal frequentation areas and also integrates localization and video calling features, while the Baby Care Mode can identify cribs and toys and allows you to create zones where cleaning is quieter.
Autonomy
Inside the Freo 20 we find a 6,400 mAh battery with support for fast charging, which is a nice benefit for products in this category, which sometimes leave cleaning tasks halfway or interrupted in several phases, precisely due to the biblical 5–6 hour charging times or even longer.
Naturally, consumption and duration vary significantly depending on suction power, the amount of washing required and the number of passes chosen by the system, but in any case I managed to clean the entire apartment of about 100 m² without hiccups, including some rooms (such as the bathroom and kitchen, about 10 m² total) cleaned with a double wash.
Price and Considerations
The Narwal Freo 20 clearly belongs to the premium tier and does not try to hide it: €999, which drop to €849 with Gizchina’s exclusive coupon found below. We are talking about a significant amount, but now fairly common among robots that aim to replace not only the vacuum cleaner, but a good part of the daily cleaning routine. And in this case the true value of the Freo 20 is not just in the 31,000 Pa: what convinces most is how all of its technologies work together to reduce our intervention. The FlowWash system keeps the mop clean during work, the base manages water, dust, washing and drying, the brushes require less attention with hair, and the dual camera makes navigation smart enough not to force us to prepare the house every time before starting a cleaning.
It does not mean you can completely forget about the robot because, at present, a minimum level of maintenance is always required, but it is still limited compared to many other competitors; Narwal Freo 20 convinces especially because it tries to remove from the equation everything that can be automated, and the new washing system is far more interesting than yet another increment in the suction-power hardware.
