During the Maui Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm officially unveiled the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 platform. It is a new architecture designed for wearable devices that combines artificial intelligence, sound quality and visual capabilities.

The company’s goal is to provide a technology base for earbuds and smart glasses capable of processing multimodal information, connecting directly to the cloud and operating independently from the smartphone to assist the user in daily life.

Compared to the previous generation, this new processor offers double the performance for on-device artificial intelligence operations.

This net power increase corresponds to a 40% lower power consumption and a 30% reduction in physical size. This optimization allows hardware makers to integrate complex algorithms that run simultaneously, ensuring long battery life even on extremely compact form factors.

According to Qualcomm’s research, 70% of users want more advanced AI features; interactions thus become more immediate, relying on natural voice commands to receive real-time support without necessarily looking at a display.

A central element of this architecture is explicit support for camera-equipped audio wearables.

Following the trends that have accompanied the development of high-end devices during 2026, the optical sensors managed by this chip are not primarily intended to take photos for social networks. Their primary function is instead to analyze the surrounding environment, providing data and real-time visual context to virtual assistants.

This approach enables advanced features such as instant translation and an assistance based on what the user is actually looking at at that precise moment.

During the launch event, the audio brand Cleer has already showcased a concept based on this technology, signaling the arrival on the market of a new category of intelligent hardware expected in the coming months.
