During the September mega event, Huawei unveiled the tri-fold Mate XT 2 and the first wide smartphone that doesn’t fold, Pura X View. On stage there was also room for the new FreeBuds 7 earbuds, equipped with a third-generation AI audio chip and packed with a slew of premium features, all at an affordable price.

The Huawei FreeBuds 7 true wireless earbuds adopt a semi in-ear design with a deeper fit than traditional earbuds. Each earbud weighs 4.3 grams, with a 12% reduction in weight and 15% reduction in volume compared to the previous generation, as well as a 19% drop in average perceived pressure for extended comfort. The TWS are available in Sunlight Orange, Midsummer Purple, Starry Night Black and Moonlight White.
On the audio front, the FreeBuds 7 mount an internally developed full-range driver with a “Turbo Acoustic” architecture, with a frequency response from 14 Hz to 48 kHz and a timbral balance improved by 14% over the previous model. The earbuds support lossless transmission up to 96 kHz/24 bit, with quality up to 4.6 Mbps.
Third-generation AI Audio Chip for noise cancellation and crystal-clear calls at 100 dB
The heart of the noise cancellation is the new third-generation AI Audio chip, equipped with dual DSP and an NPU processor, which offers 100% more compute power than the previous generation and can sample ambient noise up to 400,000 times per second, with a processing latency of just 8 microseconds.
The result is an average noise reduction 230% higher and an expanded reduction bandwidth by 275% compared to the predecessor.
Joining this is a new AI noise reduction algorithm, which runs in the background analyzing the surrounding environment and ear shape up to over 10,000 times per second, with a convergence speed 750% faster than before.
The new FreeBuds 7 support clear bidirectional calls up to 100 dB, thanks to a three-microphone system and an algorithm that combines DNN and NPU processing, with wind-noise resistance up to 8 meters per second.
Battery life and other details
Battery life per single earbud reaches up to 8.5 hours without active noise cancellation and 5 hours with ANC active, for a total up to 42 hours overall counting the charging case, thanks also to a 20% increase in battery energy density.
The charging case has also been redesigned, with a 25% reduced volume and 17% lighter weight than the previous model. The earbuds have earned an IP55 certification for dust and water spray resistance.
On the connectivity front, the buds adopt Bluetooth 6.0 technology with a new dual-band antenna that reduces interference by 78% and provides a range up to 200 meters in open spaces. The earbuds are compatible with HarmonyOS, iOS and Android devices.
AI Features: translation, transcription, K-Karaoke and device search
Among the AI-powered features, Huawei FreeBuds 7 offer transcription and multilingual translation, with offline support for the Chinese-English pairing, as well as three recording modes dedicated to calls, multimedia content and ambient sound.
There is also a smart notification system for taxi, flight and food-delivery information, with the option to respond vocally. Among the additional features are the K-Karaoke Earreturn mode, with real-time voice monitoring and KTV-style reverb effects, and the localization feature, which allows you to locate the earbuds up to 50 meters away even offline, with floor-level search inside buildings.
The device also supports multi-device connectivity with seamless audio transfer between HarmonyOS devices.
Price and availability
The FreeBuds 7 are priced at 999 yuan (about €128), available on the official Chinese store. At the moment there are still no details regarding the European and Italian release; for now in our region you can find the latest earphones FreeBuds 7i – always a guarantee for under €100.
