Honor Robot Phone is the most original Camera Phone… but how durable is it?

Honor Robot, officially launched in China in August with its titanium 200 MP gimbal camera, has fallen into the hands of Zack, the creator of the YouTube channel JerryRigEverything, known for his regular durability tests. How will the very peculiar Honor Camera Phone perform? Will it survive the tests?

To discover all the details of the durability test, you can check out the full video in the article. As for the front, the front glass of the Honor Robot Phone scratches at Mohs level 6, with deeper grooves appearing at level 7: a behavior in line with that of any other display glass currently on the market.

The device's frame is made of aluminum, but given its distinctive design one might expect some structural fragility. Instead, on the durability front of the chassis, it is the bending test that fully convinces: Honor Robot Phone responded very well to the stresses, without cracks nor deformations.

Moving on to some more “critical” elements, the concept behind the gimbal camera (on a robotic arm) is undoubtedly fascinating, but in practical use the module gets quite warm to the touch.

However the real weakness revealed by the test concerns the rdust and sand resistance: after exposure to a large amount of these elements, the gimbal can no longer exit its housing.

The robotic arm of the Honor Robot Phone does not prove to be truly dust-proof, a predictable limit for a mobile mechanism of this kind.

After the durability tests, JerryRigEverything's video continues with a teardown of the Camera Phone: the device is taken apart to reveal the secrets hidden inside.

Opening the chassis reveals an interesting detail: the vapor chamber is glued to the back of the screen, which Honor uses as a heat-dissipation surface. The 200 MP periscope sensor is equipped with optical image stabilization (OIS), while the gimbal arm proves far from easy to remove from the phone's body.

Overall, according to the test results, it remains a commendable engineering solution.
