The iPhone Duo introduced a new transition between the external 5.4-inch display and the internal 7.6-inch display. Unlike many other devices on the market that switch abruptly from one screen to the other, the software developed in Cupertino creates a blur effect that smoothly accompanies the physical movement of the hinge.
The system adapts in real time together with the audio component, which dynamically recalibrates based on the opening angle of the displays.
Driven by curiosity and the fear of missing out on this refined graphical novelty, the Reddit user moomanjohnny decided to act personally. Verifying that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 has extremely accurate hardware sensors, he created a custom application capable of replicating the iPhone Duo animation.
How does the new animation work?
The project is based on running an AGSL shader directly on both displays via the Presentation API. The software reads the exact value of the hinge inclination and interpolates the images, creating an incredibly smooth transition.
Currently this is a demo that uses simple screenshots of the two main screens, because Samsung does not provide third-party applications with the necessary system permissions to modify the user interface so deeply. Therefore, it is not an alternative launcher ready for installation, but a solid conceptual proof.
