Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 will have a jaw-dropping GPU to justify its exorbitant price

The upcoming premium-tier Android smartphones will have an exorbitant price, driven by component cost increases and the new flagship hardware from Qualcomm.

Leaks indicate that the future Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro will be characterized by an extremely high production cost, but promises to offset this expense with an enhanced GPU, specifically designed for the most demanding gamers and for the heaviest computing tasks.

While the tech sector awaits the official Snapdragon Summit event planned for next month, leaked information already outlines the company’s strategy. Qualcomm is expected to offer two variants of its chip: the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the Pro model.

The latter will power the upcoming flagship devices, but it is estimated to surpass the $300 per unit mark. Such a price will directly reflect on the final sticker price, adding to the recent increases that have already affected RAM and storage chips.

To balance such a costly expense, Qualcomm has focused on a massive upgrade to the GPU. According to information shared by the informant Digital Chat Station, the graphics component of the new series will integrate 6 processing slices.

This approach allows the processor to manage the operating frequency of each individual block independently, activating maximum power only when strictly necessary. The result is an optimal workload balance and superior energy efficiency.

The move to six slices represents a notable leap from the past: the previous Snapdragon 8 Elite and 8 Elite Gen 5 stopped at three slices, while the standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 counted only two.

Two slices do not mean double the performance

Doubling the graphics modules does not automatically translate into a precise doubling of performance, as elements such as cache memory and clock speed remain decisive in calculations.

Nevertheless, the hardware will offer clear advantages in 3D rendering, AI processing, and running graphically demanding titles.

High-performance devices, such as the upcoming OnePlus 16, will surely adopt this solution, even though the brand is set to withdraw from the EU and US markets.
