The highly anticipated the Made by Google event on August 12 could hold an unexpected surprise for brand enthusiasts.
In addition to the unveiling of the new lineup of smartphones and smartwatches, the latest rumors point to the launch of an undisclosed tracker named Google Pixel Tag.
This small accessory promises to leverage the vast global network of Android devices and high-precision tracking technologies to help users locate lost keys, wallets or bags.
Google Pixel Tag, an unexpected addition to the summer launch

During the mid-August press conference, the Mountain View company will unveil the eagerly awaited Pixel 11 series, which includes the base, Pro, Pro XL and Pro Fold models, alongside the new Pixel Watch 5. However, recently surfaced information online indicates that the stage will also host the Pixel Tag.
Details leaked from European price lists suggest that the device, identified by model number GA12506, will be sold in the colorway “Fog Light” at an affordable price of around 30 euros. Pairing with the brand’s smartphones will occur quickly and intuitively via the Fast Pair protocol, making the tracker ready to be attached to one’s personal belongings.
Millimetric precision thanks to Ultra-Wideband
The most notable technical feature of the Pixel Tag concerns the use of Ultra-Wideband technology (UWB). Unlike traditional Bluetooth localization, which relies solely on signal strength to estimate proximity, the UWB system calculates the time that radio waves take to travel between two devices.
This method, known as Time-of-Flight, guarantees significantly higher accuracy, capable of pinpointing the exact position with an error margin between 5 and 10 cm. The interface will display a directional arrow on the smartphone screen to guide the user toward the object.
Additionally, the device will be equipped with a small built-in speaker, useful for emitting an audible signal when you are in close proximity.
The strength of the Find Hub network
The Pixel Tag’s effectiveness rests on integration with the Find Hub app, the platform formerly known as Find My Device. This ecosystem relies on an infrastructure of over a billion active Android devices worldwide.
When a compatible smartphone passes near a lost tracker, it captures the Bluetooth signal and anonymously transmits the location to Google’s cloud servers.
The entire process runs in the background, with minimal energy consumption and in full respect for privacy: the owner of the smartphone detecting the signal has no way of knowing to whom the Tag belongs or what kind of object has been identified.
Having such a widespread network exponentially increases the probabilities of recovering a lost item, making the new accessory a logical and highly useful addition to Google’s mobile ecosystem.
