Galaxy Z Fold 8: after five years, finally a better battery?

Finally: Samsung has remained stuck at 4,400 mAh since the Galaxy Z Fold 3 launched in 2021, a choice that was becoming anachronistic in the face of Chinese competitors like Honor and OPPO who are already mounting batteries over 5,500 mAh in thinner bodies. Now rumors about the new battery for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 are growing even more insistent: are we really facing a turning point for the series?

Based on the leaks so far, Galaxy Z Flip 8 should not offer any battery-related novelty. On the other hand, the next book-foldable could break a tradition that has become annoyingly long. It has been at least five generations that the range has mounted a 4.400 mAh unit — albeit with a progressive improvement in the thickness of the chassis — but things would be about to change.

The latest rumors speak of a dual battery of 2,369 mAh and 2,485 mAh, for a nominal capacity of 4,845 mAh. This would translate into a typical capacity of 5.000 mAh, a huge turning point for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8.

In parentheses, there was also a variant of 4,800 mAh typical capacity, but this should belong to Galaxy Z Fold Wide — the novel addition for this generation (not yet officially confirmed). Anyway the appointment with the new foldables is expected in the month of July, so we just have to be patient.

What to Expect from the Rest of the Specs

Regarding the displays, we do not anticipate any major changes from Samsung: the current Z Fold 7 introduced a larger internal screen by about 11% versus its predecessor, so it is plausible to assume there will be no additions.

At the heart of the experience, the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 For Galaxy: the chipset debuted on Galaxy S26 Ultra, so it is very likely that we will see Qualcomm and Samsung’s flagship solution again.

Probably we could see an improvement in dust and water resistance, but for now we only hypothesize an IP48 rating (as with Z Fold 7).

Regarding the camera setup, according to leaks the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 will straddle old and new: we will find a 200 MP sensor and the selfie cameras (internal/external) at 10 MP, but the telephoto would rise to 12 MP. Additionally good news for the ultra-wide, at a solid 50 MP. Clearly these are rumors, so best to take everything with caution.
