It’s been weeks since talk about the new Dynamic Island of the iPhone 18 series, and now a case manufacturer may have revealed the mystery. The next generation of Apple’s smartphones should continue to use the island, but with good news for detractors: the module would have smaller dimensions, for a final look that is less invasive, and now some images show how the final result could look.
iPhone 18 Pro: the (alleged) protective film shows the dimensions of the new Dynamic Island

As usual in these cases, we note that this is a leak to be taken with caution: there are several months until the release of the next iPhone 18, almost certainly at the usual September event, and there are not yet certainties or official details.
The latest development comes thanks to a case manufacturer: the images show what the front of the iPhone 18 Pro (and Pro Max) could look like thanks to a new Dynamic Island with reduced dimensions. The module should move from the current 20.76 mm to only 13.49 mm, while continuing to offer the standard TrueDepth camera — which includes both the selfie camera and the package that enables 3D face unlock.
The bezels around the display would remain unchanged, just as hinted by a very recent leak. Moreover, it seems the mini island should not be exclusive to the bigger siblings: according to a well-known insider, also iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2 will be able to benefit from a more immersive panel.
For now there is no confirmation, but according to rumors, Apple would have implemented some components of Face ID directly under the display, including the Flood Illuminator (which is responsible for lighting the user’s face by emitting an infrared beam). Thanks to this change, a mini Dynamic Island would be possible.

As we also mentioned earlier, rumors around a fully under-display Face ID are becoming more insistent. However, it is very likely that this feature will arrive in 2027, on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of iPhone. 2017 was the year of iPhone X and the 3D face unlock, so it seems plausible that Apple is working on a similarly innovative surprise.
