Samsung and the National Day for the Prevention of Food Waste: Creativity and Technology in the Kitchen

The February 5 date, the day on which the 13th National Day for the Prevention of Food Waste is celebrated, has become an essential moment of collective reflection on our consumption habits.

In a context where sustainability has become a global priority, attention is shifting more and more from large industrial maneuvers to small domestic gestures.

It is precisely within the walls of home that Samsung has decided to intervene, proposing a vision in which technological innovations are not an end in themselves, but become a practical tool to promote a more ethical and conscious lifestyle.

With Samsung, every plate counts: 13th National Day for the Prevention of Food Waste

The need for a change of direction is underscored by the numbers, which describe a still critical situation. The findings of the Waste Watcher International Observatory, based on August 2025 data, offer a troubling picture: Italy remains positioned above the European average when it comes to food thrown in the garbage.

Each citizen wastes more than half a kilo of food per week, accumulating over 28.9 kilograms in a year. These figures are indicators of a cultural and organizational problem that requires immediate solutions. The kitchen, a place of creation and sharing, thus becomes the focal point where technology and good practices must meet to reverse the trend.

The Art of Recovery: When Cooking Becomes Circular

To demonstrate how it is possible to transform scraps into resources, Samsung involved Martina Baiardi, a personal trainer and digital creator known for her balanced approach to well-being. Her philosophy moves away from rigid privations to embrace an inclusive kitchen, where the recovery of foods plays a fundamental role.

Through the use of the Samsung Bespoke Cottura Ventilata 32L with Wi-Fi, Baiardi illustrated how to restore dignity to ingredients that would usually end up in the bin.

The practical example provided by the creator is a lesson in applied culinary creativity: a “save-the-dinner” sandwich that recovers stale bread.

The process described by Baiardi simplifies complexity, relying on the intelligent functions of the appliance. Stale bread, wrapped in damp paper towel, regains its original softness thanks to a quick pass at maximum power. This is complemented by often overlooked or leftover ingredients, such as pumpkin and leek.

The former is cooked while preserving its nutrients using the Healthy Steam function, which uses steam to keep the flesh intact, while the latter is roasted and made crispy with the Air Fry mode.

The final result is a dish that combines different textures, proving that healthy and sustainable eating does not require sacrifices in taste, but only the right tools.

Artificial Intelligence at the Heart of the Home

If recovery is the cure, prevention remains the best strategy. In this regard, the technological evolution offered by Samsung with the refrigerators in the Family Hub line marks a step forward in pantry management.

Research has shown that fresh fruit, vegetables and salads are the main victims of our inattention; to counteract this phenomenon, the technology AI Vision Inside acts as a vigilant and tireless supervisor.

The system relies on an internal camera that takes a picture every time the fridge doors are closed, allowing the user to view the contents in real time via smartphone, wherever they are.

This feature eliminates the risk of duplicate or superfluous purchases while at the supermarket.

But the innovation does not stop here: the new model presented at CES in Las Vegas integrates for the first time the capabilities of Google Gemini.

The new artificial intelligence is able to identify autonomously a wide range of foods, including packaged ones, monitor their expiration dates and suggest recipes based on ingredients to be consumed soon.

The technology thus positions itself not as a luxury accessory, but as a fundamental ally for the household budget and for the environment.
