Redmi Pad 2: a HyperOS 3 bug that ‘silences’ the low-budget tablet

In recent months Xiaomi announced HyperOS 3, the new version of its proprietary interface: the rollout began in China and then arrived in Global and European versions, bringing notable improvements to a slew of devices.

However the latest update dedicated to Redmi Pad 2 seems to cause some headaches: according to reports the build OS3.0.1.0.WOVMIXM would cause the tablet to go silent. At the moment the issue seems to affect only the Global version (not the EU), and there are mentions of regional variants.

The HyperOS 3 bug would cause a complete loss of the tablet’s audio, rendering the built-in speakers on the device useless. Xiaomi has officially acknowledged the problem and would already be working on a solution.

As noted at the outset, the defect would affect the software version OS3.0.1.0.WOVMIXM, related to Redmi Pad 2. Affected users have tried performing a factory reset, but nothing seems to have any effect.

The only way to avoid the problem would be to use a pair of earbuds: the bug, in fact, does not seem to remove sound completely but only the output of the speakers. It is likely the issue lies in the audio drivers; anyway the response and the solution belong to Xiaomi.

As of writing, the Redmi Pad 2 Global and regional variants are being discussed: consequently, it does not seem that the EU model is affected, at least from what has emerged so far.
