With a surprise and unprecedented move, OnePlus 16 might never see the light in the Global version. The next flagship would be a Chinese-exclusive, at least according to what emerged in the past hours. These are not official details and at the moment everything is still unclear: nevertheless for international fans of the brand it’s not yet time to panic.
A jaw-dropping twist for OnePlus 16: the Global version might not see the light… but could it really be so?

The first shake arrived via a post from OnePlus Club on X: it’s not an official profile and would have gathered the scoop from a source. However the post has been removed and the reason isn’t clear (perhaps to avoid fueling controversy).
Meanwhile the Indian insider Yogesh Brar, a figure certainly more authoritative, has stepped on the scene. The leaker posted the presumed camera configuration of OnePlus 16, revealing a 200 + 50 + 50 MP setup with a telephoto lens offering 3.5X optical zoom. What stands out is the “Ma…“ that closes the message: deliberately cryptic it could refer to the absence of Global or be just a huge bait.
It is true that OnePlus is by no means a brand champion in sales, and yet the end of the Global venture seems particularly exaggerated. The manufacturer has never shone for numbers and is currently absorbed by OPPO, fifth smartphone producer in the world.
However we are talking about a brand that has managed to build a solid base of enthusiasts and that nonetheless is capable of teasing with its devices. OnePlus Open 2 would have been canceled while the compact flagship OnePlus 15T should arrive only in China, according to recent leaks.
But even in this case we are talking about two special segments: a foldable flagship and a compact model, devices that approach more like brand “experiments”. And indeed, to prove this, the rumors about the launch of OnePlus Nord 6 are growing louder: the Chinese house is interested in the premium and mid-range tiers, not the foldables sector nor the mini-format top names.
Returning to OnePlus 16, the debut is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026. We await news, but it seems unlikely there will be a Global version: therefore, until an official announcement it’s wise to sleep easy.
