The famous list of services discontinued by Google (also available on the site Killed by Google) is ready to welcome a new occupant.
This time it’s Gmailify’s turn, a feature introduced with high expectations in February 2016, which will cease to be operational by January 2026.
Farewell Gmailify, the service that made all mail accounts Gmail-like
When it was launched almost a decade ago, Gmailify represented a promise of advanced interoperability. The goal was ambitious but simple: to allow users with Yahoo, AOL, Outlook or Hotmail accounts to enjoy the exclusive Gmail features without having to change their email address.
It wasn’t simply an aggregation of mailboxes; Gmailify literally empowered external accounts.
Through this system, an Outlook user could benefit from Google’s sophisticated anti-spam protection, the automatic organization of incoming mail (with the Social, Updates and Promotions tabs) and the advanced search capabilities.
On the mobile front as well, the experience had been enhanced with improved notifications, making the use of a third-party account effectively indistinguishable from that of a native @gmail.com address.
However, the company began notifying users via in-app alerts that this technology is about to be shut down.
Other discontinued features alongside Gmailify
The scaling back of services is not limited to Gmailify alone. Google has concurrently announced the end of support for the feature “Check mail from other accounts” that uses the POP (Post Office Protocol), forcing many users to revisit their digital mail management habits.
Although the deadline is set for January 2026, notifications are already laying the groundwork for the transition.
It’s important to emphasize that users’ digital assets won’t be lost: all imported and archived emails before the deprecation date will remain accessible within the Gmail mailbox.
